The writer Park Cheon-hyu of the musical 'Perhaps a Happy Ending' received high praise from Steven Spielberg.
During the 300th special episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' aired on the 2nd, the six-time Tony Award winner Park Cheon-hyu said, "Director Steven Spielberg watched the performance. He wrote us a letter. It was a letter, not an email."
He smiled and added, "After the Tony Awards ceremony, I had a currency call. Since he was in Spain, we talked. He said, 'The Korean background was really attractive, and I felt like I was in future Korea.' It was a tearful moment. I talked for about 40 minutes while trying not to cry."
Last month, at the 2025 Tony Awards held in New York, 'Perhaps a Happy Ending' swept a total of six awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Scenic Design, and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical.
Park Cheon-hyu, when asked a balance game question about Steven Spielberg and his colleague Will, replied, "I'm worried that Will might leave. He is a genius composer who writes great scripts. I'm grateful that he accepts me, who is always neurotic and sensitive, as his best friend and business partner. I'm so proud. He is like a twin to me."
