British band Oasis member Liam Gallagher is facing public backlash over racist remarks ahead of his concert in Korea.
On the 1st, Liam Gallagher drew attention by suddenly posting "Chingchong" on his social media account without any explanation.
'Chingchong' is a term often used by Westerners to demean Asians. In response, a fan pointed out to Liam Gallagher, "You shouldn't use such words," but Liam Gallagher retorted, "Why?"
A fan explained that the word 'Chingchong' is "racially discriminatory," but Liam Gallagher oddly pointed out to "Behave". Additionally, he clashed with netizens who criticized his post and demanded its deletion, responding with sharp replies like "Whatever."
As the controversy grew, Liam Gallagher deleted the problematic post about six hours later and issued a late apology. He explained, "I apologize if my unintentional post hurt someone's feelings," adding, "I think you all know that I love everyone and don't discriminate." He also included a message saying "peace and love."
However, some replies he sent to netizens who pointed out the issue with the word 'Chingchong' remain deleted. In response, the apology post from Liam Gallagher received a cold reaction from disappointed fans.
Moreover, Liam Gallagher is in a situation ahead of the upcoming Oasis concert in October. Oasis is set to hold a concert on October 21 at Goyang Sports Complex. This visit is the first for Oasis in about 16 years since 2009, and last November, Oasis raised expectations by posting, "Korea, our new friends. Just wait a bit. Oasis is coming soon."
Thus, fans who have been eagerly waiting for Oasis's concert in Korea are feeling even more disappointed. They also expressed anger at what they perceived as an insincere apology and attempts to evade responsibility, despite claiming it was "unintentional." Nevertheless, Liam Gallagher is currently remaining silent without any additional statements.
Meanwhile, Oasis will hold a concert at Goyang Sports Complex on October 21 and continue their performances at Tokyo Dome in Japan on October 24 and 25.
