Singer Kim Jeong-min has revealed the latest news about his second son, Dany Daichi (Korean name Kim Do-yun).
On the 1st, Kim Jeong-min posted a short message saying "Happy birthday, son" along with a photo on his social media.
The released photo features Kim Jeong-min taking a selfie next to his son Dany Daichi, who is wearing a shirt and tie. The two smiled brightly at the camera, showcasing their warm father-son chemistry.
Dany Daichi is currently active as a player on the Japan U-17 national football team. He captured attention by representing Japan at the 2025 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-17 Asian Cup held in Saudi Arabia. Originally from the FC Seoul youth team, he later went to study in Japan, joined a J-League team, and is now playing for the Japanese national team. This means that a valuable rising star resource that could potentially become a future national representative for Korean football has been lost.
In an interview with the Japanese football media 'Soccer Digest' in 2024, Daichi expressed his reasons for deciding to study in Japan, saying, "I wanted to go to Japan. If I were to transfer, I wanted to play for the strongest team. I played in the J Club Academy, Sagan Tosu, at a higher level in the 3rd year of middle school." His father, Kim Jeong-min, also noted, "Dany is not naturalized in Japan; his homeland is originally two countries. To my young son, football is just football. He dreams of going to Europe," showing his support for his son's dreams.
However, there has been considerable debate online regarding his choice of nationality. Opinions varied from "The choice should be respected" to sharp reactions like "Isn't this a moral issue?" and "I hope he doesn't return to the Korean team."
However, in Kim Jeong-min's recent social media post, for the moment, this controversy was set aside, and only warm birthday wishes for his son were quietly conveyed.
