(Following the interview③) Actor Cha Hak-yeon expressed admiration for fellow actor So Ji-sub, who is also a senior at his agency, for his noir performance.
Cha Hak-yeon conducted an interview on the afternoon of the 2nd at a café in Gangnam, Seoul. He shared his experiences, including his role as Go Gyeon-woo in the recently concluded MBC drama 'Oh My Ghost Clients,' with domestic reporters.
'Oh My Ghost Clients' is a comedic fantasy action series that captures the adventures of a labor attorney who can see ghosts as he tackles labor issues. In this series, Cha Hak-yeon played the role of Go Gyeon-woo, a creator and former journalist who publicizes the cases of the attorney No Mu-jin (Jung Kyung-ho). Together with Jung Kyung-ho, who plays No Mu-jin, and Seo In-ah, who plays Na Hee-joo, he gained popularity among viewers as part of the 'Mu-jins.'
Cha Hak-yeon revealed his reactions to the responses from those around him who watched 'Oh My Ghost Clients,' saying, "Usually, people who have never watched my dramas contacted me. Friends who often watch dramas usually reach out regardless of the outcome, but this time, even those who don't typically watch dramas contacted me. Since I am a late child, my father and mother are older, and even they received a lot of calls."
He expressed his happiness by saying, "When I went to the dermatology clinic, I heard from people who had never seen my dramas before that they enjoyed 'Oh My Ghost Clients.' Especially, I received a lot of feedback from those who typically do not watch dramas. It felt like I was facing a new audience."
Notably, fellow actor So Ji-sub from the same agency also contacted Cha Hak-yeon. Cha Hak-yeon laughed, saying, "Senior So Ji-sub told me after the first episode ended, 'I watched it well; you did well.'"
He added, "I also responded by watching the Netflix original series 'The Square,' in which senior So Ji-sub appeared. It was really wonderful. Senior So Ji-sub's portrayal of that character was amazing. I had a strong desire to explore this genre. I want to try new genres as well. Every word he said while standing still was so cool. I felt like it wouldn't convey my true feelings well if I elaborated, so I simply said, 'It was really amazing.'"
In reality, Cha Hak-yeon is currently on a strong growth trajectory as an actor. Along with 'Oh My Ghost Clients,' he expanded his filmography by meeting audiences with the film 'Song of the Sun' around the same time. He shared, "During holidays, we often say it's a bountiful Chuseok, right? For me, it was a time like a holiday. It was a time for both a movie and a drama. It was really fruitful. Even though it was busy, I was happy. I saw many of my new sides. Of course, the filming set had its own aspects, but I felt drawn to the charm of stage greetings for the movie. That exhilaration before the movie started was a great source of strength for me. The timing of receiving reactions for the drama and movie was different, making it feel rich and festive."
Most importantly, he expressed, "I felt good that such different characters emerged. In the movie, I play Min-jun, while in the drama, I portray Gyeon-woo, and the two characters are very different. I enjoyed seeing contrasting characters at the same time."
