"I was only happy until this scene"… Park Seong-hoon, the actor who has filmed the death scene twice, reveals tears behind the scenes
Actor Park Seong-hoon left a lasting impression once again through the Netflix original series 'Squid Game Season 3'. In particular, the behind-the-scenes moments of filming the death scenes in two different works while passionately portraying the transgender character Hyeon-joo are being highlighted.
On the 1st, a video titled 'Highlight reaction of wanting to grab the neck of the legendary character (?) in the hide-and-seek scene' was released on the official Netflix Korea YouTube channel. In this video featuring Yim Siwan, Jo Yuri, Park Seong-hoon, and Kang Ae-shim, key scenes from Season 3 were introduced, along with shared behind-the-scenes moments from the filming.
Park Seong-hoon, who played the role of participant 120, Hyeon-joo, commented on the birthing scene of Jun-hee (played by Jo Yuri), saying, "We shared a strong emotional bond. I came out risking everything to survive." However, the scene of being stabbed to death by Myeong-gi (played by Yim Siwan) followed shortly after, and Park Seong-hoon noted, "The director asked for just a tear or two, but it all came out in one go," demonstrating his high level of immersion in the acting.
Park Seong-hoon particularly caught attention by revealing, "The day I filmed the death scene in Daejeon studio coincided with the filming day of my character's death scene in Netflix's 'Queen of Tears'." He shared, "That day was particularly emotionally draining and challenging to film." He added, "Characters that are altruistic and just are rare in the game, and Hyeon-joo was such a character. It's unfortunate that she chose to turn back for her comrades despite being able to escape right away."
This scene was also shared on the official Netflix Korea social media on the 29th, under the description 'A gathering of people who were only happy until this exact scene,' which sparked buzz. The video showcased Hyeon-joo's choice to not escape alone after discovering the exit, but instead wanting to leave with Geum-ja (played by Kang Ae-shim) and Jun-hee (played by Jo Yuri), adding an emotional touch.
International fans expressed their enthusiastic support for Park Seong-hoon's acting, saying, "The best presence of this season," "More impressive than anyone else," and "I fell in love with her just from this one scene." Notably, there has been praise for authentically portraying a transgender character despite social prejudices.
Park Seong-hoon showcased his role as the transgender Hyeon-joo, a character from the special forces, in both Season 2 and Season 3. His portrayal, characterized by a bob haircut and heavy makeup, left a deep impression on viewers both domestically and internationally, and his outstanding acting is being reexamined.
