MBN 'Oh Eun-young Stay' delivered 'K-healing' to the living room through confessions and tears from those who have been hurt, along with solid advice from Dr. Oh Eun-young and warm comfort from Ko So-young and Moon Se-yoon.
The second episode of the MBN 30th anniversary national comfort project 'Oh Eun-young Stay,' which aired on the 30th, gently unraveled the stories of individuals revealing the depths of their emotions, deeply stirring the hearts of viewers. Dr. Oh Eun-young, Ko So-young, and Moon Se-yoon shared poignant confessions from various individuals burdened by the weight of their lives, including 'Yes-man' who cannot refuse, 'Mask girl' who wears a mask due to body shaming, and 'Curfew woman' who must adhere to a curfew even at the age of forty.
On this day, the first subject of the 'Auto Talk' session, 'Yes-man,' shared his struggles of having lived in a position of always being 'the one' who cannot refuse requests. He expressed, "There are too many constraints in social life" and characterized himself with the number '2.' After lending all his savings to an acquaintance, he found himself without money and took out a loan from a lending institution, stating that the interest alone ballooned to tens of millions of won. Hearing 'Yes-man's' wounds, Ko So-young cautiously empathized, saying, "My husband has a bit of that as well. He thinks it's better to get scolded than to refuse. It's just more convenient to go along with it," and suggested creating a manual on how to refuse, sharing insights from her experience.
Dr. Oh Eun-young asked 'Yes-man,' "Did accepting unreasonable requests maintain a good relationship?" 'Yes-man' calmly responded that it was a survival strategy from childhood due to his small stature. Dr. Oh Eun-young advised, "When making a decision and taking action, if there is only the standard of others and no standard of my own, even if it is difficult for me, I choose what others might like or find less uncomfortable. However, you must hand over that person's problem to them instead of carrying it yourself." Additionally, Dr. Oh Eun-young conveyed a quiet but strong message that "even if you refuse, you are still a good person," deeply moving not only 'Yes-man' but also the viewers.
Next, 'Mask girl' shared the painful words she has heard from the world, which were hard to utter. She wept while recounting instances where people said, "It's disgusting," "You're not a woman by appearance," and "Even as a clearance item, I wouldn't meet you," and confessed that despite receiving counseling and undergoing medical examinations, her situation deteriorated further. 'Mask girl' ultimately quit her job and lived in seclusion for six months. She recounted being slapped by a close friend from school and mustering the courage to tell her parents but instead received reproach in response, saying, "Aren't you the one who did something wrong?" which left everyone silent. 'Mask girl' expressed a heartfelt wish to relieve her guilt towards her only supporter, her older sister, now that she has become healthier.
Dr. Oh Eun-young remarked, "This is something to cry about. It's more than enough reason to cry. Where in the world does such unfairness exist?" and reassured, "People live within relationships. It's important to maintain a balance of mutual power in relationships. It's not because you lack inner strength that such things happen. The people who said those things are the bad ones." She continued by saying, "However, you cannot leave the rest of your life to them. If you continue to stand there, it will be too cold and painful. Now, you must take a step to the side. Even if it hurts, you are still precious. I hope you can hold onto that feeling," offering counsel filled with firm sincerity that brought a smile to the tearful 'Mask girl.'
The last participant, 'Curfew woman,' confessed, "I have never returned home after 10 p.m. not once," and shared the reality of receiving over thirty missed calls if she doesn't answer her phone, even leading to police reports. 'Curfew woman' mentioned that she still sleeps in the same bed as her mother, stating, "I feel my mom's sadness coming to me. I feel like I have to bear the roles of her husband, child, and guardian," revealing her true feelings that she had never shared with anyone. Dr. Oh Eun-young pointed out that the mother's reactions are not simple obsession but rather a level of anxiety disorder that requires treatment, stating, "Your mother needs treatment for her health. This issue cannot be resolved just by accommodating her feelings."
Furthermore, Dr. Oh Eun-young met separately with 'Curfew woman's' mother, who unexpectedly visited the filming site, and remarked, "Parents are supposed to help amplify their child's inner strength. But what they do instead is not empower them." She advised, "You should not frame your inappropriate anxiety as if your daughter did something wrong. That anxiety needs to be lowered by you," which led the mother to gain insights on aspects she had not considered, prompting her to respond, "I will try hard. Thank you for your kind words," with a smile.
'Oh Eun-young Stay' tenderly caressed deep wounds with warm and firm advice while not merely dwelling on emotions but also suggesting a direction for change, striking a chord in viewers' hearts. In particular, the preview of episode 2 featured Hanni from EXID candidly sharing her thoughts, raising curiosity about who the new participants of season 2 will be, ready to unveil their stories.
