The roboticist Dennis Hong, known as the 'Leonardo da Vinci of robotics,' is set to appear on 'Crazy Rich Korean.'
On the 29th, according to OSEN's investigation, Dennis Hong decided to grant appearances on KBS2's variety show 'Crazy Rich Korean' (hereinafter 'Crico') and recently completed filming. The broadcast date is undecided.
'Crazy Rich Korean' is a reality variety show focusing on the daily lives and extraordinary attitudes of Koreans living around the world while immersed in their professions, observing Korean workplaces where each boasts their own 'rich.'
Dennis Hong, a Korean-American, entered Korea University, graduated from the University of Wisconsin, and earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. He is currently a full professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCLA.
This is not Dennis Hong's first appearance on Korean television; in 2017, he appeared on 'Problematic Men' and in 2023 on 'You Quiz on the Block', discussing his life as a roboticist.
At that time, Dennis Hong noted, 'There was a feature article about me in The Washington Post. At the beginning of that article, there was that sentence. I felt good. It's probably not because I'm genius, but because many people delve deeply into one field, while I dig widely into many areas. I think it's because I inspire and provide opportunities for many by broadening various fields.' He explained the reason behind his nickname, 'Leonardo da Vinci of robotics.'
Dennis Hong has achieved success in developing driving assistance systems for the visually impaired, rescue robots, as well as prosthetic arms and legs, and was awarded the 'Young Scientist Award' from the NSF in 2007. In 2009, he was also selected as one of the 10 'young geniuses shaking up science,' and at the early stages of humanoid robot research, he contributed to the development of the mini-humanoid robot field by making the designs for the robot 'Darwin OP' fully available.
Amid curiosity about the workplace of this genius robotic scientist, Professor Dennis Hong is set to reveal his workplace by granting appearances on 'Crico.'
Meanwhile, KBS2's 'Crazy Rich Korean' airs every Sunday at 9:20 p.m.
