Amid mixed reviews of the 'Squid Game' Season 3, actor Noh Jae-won has captivated audiences worldwide as an all-time great villain.
In the Netflix series 'Squid Game' Season 3, released on the 27th, Noh Jae-won is again gaining attention for his intense presence in the role of Nam Gyu.
'Squid Game 3' depicts the final fate of Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), who loses his closest friend in the game he re-enters with his own purpose, and the Frontman (played by Lee Byung-hun), who hides his identity while lurking in the game, along with the participants who survive in the brutal game.
Nam Gyu, played by Noh Jae-won, is a game participant from a club MD background and was a figure who caused conflict among participants alongside Thanos (played by Choi Seung-hyun) in Season 2. Although he was ignored and not even called by name by Thanos, he stirred global viewers' anger by bullying participants weaker than himself.
In Season 3, Nam Gyu returns as an even more powerful villain. In the absence of Thanos, he imitates his rap and actions, persistently provoking Min-soo (played by Lee Da-wit) to intensify his trauma. He incites evil deeds in Myung-ki (played by Yim Siwan), and in a drug-induced state, he displays a mad demeanor, saying, "Let's go kill half the Earthlings." Nam Gyu's actions of harming participants without guilt were sufficient for him to become the ultimate villain of Season 3.
Noh Jae-won expressed the eye-catching Nam Gyu character with his own flair throughout his appearance. From his ruthless willingness to kill to his chaotic state suffering from drug withdrawal, he vividly portrayed a wide range of emotions, enhancing the immersive quality.
Noh Jae-won has shown his talent in works such as Disney+ 'Nine Puzzles', the Netflix series 'Morning Comes to the Mental Ward', 'Murderer is Awkward', and MBC's 'Such a Close Betrayer'. He has received immense praise from the public for perfectly transforming his acting in 'Squid Game' Seasons 2 and 3, which are completely different from his previous works. Captivating audiences both in Korea and abroad, Noh Jae-won's realistic performance has left a strong impression. Some media outlets have even praised him for evoking memories of Heath Ledger's Joker.
Moreover, Noh Jae-won's humming of 'We Loved' in the show led to the creation of various parody videos, continuing the 'Nam Gyu syndrome'.
Meanwhile, according to FlixPatrol, a global OTT ranking site, Noh Jae-won's 'Squid Game' has proven its global popularity by ranking No. 1 in the Netflix TV program category just one day after release, and first in 93 countries as of the 29th.
