Star actors such as Ma Dong-seok and Lee Young-ae will appear in KBS dramas.
On the 30th, KBS announced changes to the viewing time for dramas through a drastic scheduling overhaul starting in August. The core of this strategy is a 'tentpole' programming strategy that utilizes star actors like Ma Dong-seok and Lee Young-ae to feature various genres such as action hero and human crime thriller. It aims to enhance channel immersion and broaden viewer choice by moving the currently airing Wednesday-Thursday miniseries to the weekend.
This dense programming allows viewers to continuously watch dramas, including weekend dramas and weekend miniseries, creating a revamped drama zone. It is seen as a new attempt to induce channel loyalty among viewers of all generations while capturing both ratings and public interest.
The first work of KBS's weekend miniseries is confirmed to be 'Twelve,' starring Ma Dong-seok. 'Twelve' is an eight-part action hero story about twelve angels fighting against evil forces to protect the human world. It intricately portrays the story of the twelve zodiac characters with its unique worldview inspired by Eastern culture. Armed with a strong cast including Ma Dong-seok, Park Hyung-sik, Seo In-guk, Sung Dong-il, and Lee Joo-bin, 'Twelve' is expected to set a new standard for Korean hero dramas.
Following that, 'Eun-soo Good Day,' starring Lee Young-ae and Kim Young-kwang, is set to premiere in September. This story deals with the precarious and secretive partnership between an ordinary parent and a mysterious teacher. The parent Eun-soo (Lee Young-ae), who wants to protect her family, gets embroiled with the teacher Lee Kyung (Kim Young-kwang) over a drug bag, leading to an exciting story packed with thrilling action as veteran detective Tae-goo (Park Yong-woo) pursues them, making it a well-made crime thriller.
KBS stated that the new weekend miniseries programming aims to target not only the family viewership that enjoys existing weekend dramas but also the 2049 core target audience in the prime weekend time slot.
'Twelve,' the first installment of KBS's groundbreaking programming, will premiere on Saturday, August 23, at 9:20 p.m. on KBS 2TV.
