The production team's heartfelt narrative is making everyone's heart race.
Every episode captivates viewers with unpredictable developments in the KBS 2TV Wednesday-Thursday drama 'The First Night With the Duke' (directed by Lee Woonghee and Kang Sooyeon, written by Jeon Seonyeong, produced by Studio N and Monster Union), where the best moments personally chosen by director Lee Woonghee and writer Jeon Seonyeong have been revealed.
Cha Seon-taek (played by Seohyun), who was merely a minor character in the novel, has tried to faithfully fulfill her given role, refusing to become the protagonist despite the intense advances from the main character (played by Ok Taecyeon). However, she comes to realize her love for him, which has taken root in her heart for some time, and takes her first step toward becoming the protagonist, signaling the start of a full-fledged story. Director Lee Woonghee and writer Jeon Seonyeong have also focused attention on this moment of Cha Seon-taek's awakening, selecting it as one of their favorite scenes.
Director Lee Woonghee selected the line from the fifth episode, 'I will make you my female protagonist,' as significant, stating, 'That one line shows how much this man trusts and loves this woman, indicating that it has become something that could even be likened to a religion.' He added, 'This becomes an opportunity for Seon-taek to break free from the guilt and inferiority complex that has bound her and move toward becoming the true protagonist of life.'
Moreover, he noted, 'I believe it is a good scene that implies the role of their love goes beyond mere romance to nurturing each other's wounds and helping one another find themselves.'
Writer Jeon Seonyeong mentioned the line 'There is no such thing as the way things were originally' that the female lead Jo Eun-ae (played by Kwon Hansol) says to Cha Seon-taek in the fifth episode. 'This line appears in the original novel, but it was a core line that I always tried to remember during the adaptation process,' she said. 'After hearing this line, Cha Seon-taek, who had refused to become the protagonist, begins to move independently, shedding off guilt and burdens. The main theme is that other characters also follow their own paths, unlike the existing plot of the novel.'
Furthermore, regarding Cha Seon-taek's narration in the fourth episode, 'Everyone was struggling to become the protagonist of their own story,' he expressed a heartfelt message, wishing that the message 'Those who no longer run away or evade before conflict and crisis are all sufficiently qualified to be protagonists' would be well conveyed.
Meanwhile, in the sixth episode, during the competition, when Cha Seon-taek gets caught in the schemes of the villainous Dohwaseon (played by Ji Hyewon) and the antagonist Nam Gi-ae (played by Nam Gi-ae), the scene where the main character appears to rescue her recorded a peak viewer rating of 4.1% (according to Nielsen Korea nationwide), marking it as 'the best one minute.'
Thus, the KBS 2TV Wednesday-Thursday drama 'The First Night With the Duke,' where Cha Seon-taek and the main character try to break the mold of the original work and craft the story in their own way, delivers both laughter and emotion, airing every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 p.m.
