Singer Hyun Jin-young revealed the reason for his sudden hospitalization in a mental health facility.
Recently, a video titled "Menopause is the most terrifying thing" was posted on the YouTube channel "Lim Ha-ryong Show."
Lim Ha-ryong said, "Meeting my wife was a divine intervention." Hyun Jin-young stated, "That's right. I have always wisely followed the guidance like a navigation system whenever I was at a crossroads, and I have never made a mistake.
He continued, "Because after meeting for 2 years, my wife put me in a mental health facility. I was preparing for my fourth album, and they said I looked too unstable."
At that time, his symptoms of panic disorder and depression were severe. Hyun Jin-young noted, "I had a severe panic disorder and depression, yet I managed to complete the album. But my wife said she wanted me to go the day before the album release. When I asked where we were going, she said we were going to the hospital. It was like saying, if you're sick, you go and get treatment; since you seem to have a headache, going to the hospital is the right thing to do."
He added, "So I asked, why would I go there? I already have a different label, and if I go there, I will have to live with that label for life. I asked, are you crazy? And I asked why we should go when the album is coming out tomorrow," saying, "Then she said she would break up with me."
Lim Ha-ryong reacted, "In my wife's eyes, you seemed quite anxious," and Hyun Jin-young explained, "So, out of love for my wife, I had no choice but to go to the hospital. I said I would go after the press conference. I couldn't bring myself to be taken away by The Man from Nowhere. So, I asked if I could just go on my own."
He continued, "So we discussed it and held a press conference. I entered the hospital on the day the album was released and couldn't participate in any activities. I thought it was a complete failure. But the album sold exceptionally well. It was the song 'Cradle.' I returned to broadcasting after being discharged from the hospital. But from then on, the album did not perform well," he said with a laugh.
Hyun Jin-young also mentioned, "Later, my manager asked how we would market the album. So I jokingly mentioned, should I go to the hospital? After all, my wife and I made a tough decision to go, didn't we? It became a fortunate turn of events, and the album received a good response, and thanks to my wife, I could dramatically find a foothold to make a comeback."
Hyun Jin-young's wife, Oh Seo-un, made her debut in 1995 with the KBS youth drama "The New Generation Report: Adults Don't Know" and has appeared in dramas such as "Love Story in Harvard," "My Name is Kim Sam-soon," and the film "Cinderella."
