'Squid Game Season 3' boasts overwhelming buzz, from the finale event to its Netflix ranking.
On the 27th, the Netflix original series 'Squid Game Season 3' (written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk) was released. Comprising a total of six episodes, 'Squid Game Season 3' depicts Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who lost his best friend in a game he rejoined with his own purpose, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who hid his identity while infiltrating the game, and the fates of the participants who survived in that brutal game.
'Squid Game,' which premiered on Netflix in 2021, captivated audiences worldwide with its story of players risking their lives in an extreme game for a prize of 45.6 billion won, creating a global phenomenon. Thanks to its success, the 'Squid Game' series has maintained its position as the most popular series on Netflix, marking the start of a K-content craze targeting not only the Asian wave but also North America and Europe.
Following that, the previously released 'Squid Game Season 2' also continued the momentum of global success. It not only recorded the highest viewership in its release week on Netflix but also rose to the 3rd place among the most popular series in Netflix history. Additionally, Netflix attracted the attention of series fans with aggressive events. On the 28th in the afternoon, a finale event for 'Squid Game Season 3' was held in front of Sejong-daero in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Attending the event were director Hwang Dong-hyuk, lead actors Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun, as well as actors Park Hae-soo and Jung Ho-yeon from Season 1, and Yim Siwan and Kang Ha-neul, who appeared in Seasons 2 and 3.
In particular, rapper Tanos, who participated as a contestant in 'Squid Game' Season 2, was also present. It was his first appearance at a domestic official event in eight years, following the 2017 marijuana controversy. Initially criticized regarding his appearance in 'Squid Game Season 2,' Tanos responded to an interview with domestic reporters after the season's release last year and apologized again. In response to this, 'Squid Game Season 3' rose to the top spot in all 93 countries where Netflix operates immediately after its release, according to Flix Patrol. When converted into scores, it totaled 930 points, surpassing the 676 points of the second place 'Water Front' by a wide margin.
