Actress Kim Hee-ra has appeared at her first official event after the school violence controversy was resolved.
On the 26th, Kim Hee-ra attended a press call for the third season of the musical 'Frida' held at NOL Uniplex 1 in Jongno, Seoul. Kim Hee-ra's return to the stage comes two years after her performance in 'Frida' in 2023, and she particularly stood on this official stage for the first time in two years following the school violence allegations.
Previously in 2023, allegations emerged that Kim Hee-ra was a member of a bullying group during middle school and a perpetrator of school violence. The whistleblowers claimed that Kim Hee-ra had made others run errands for cigarettes or extorted money, while at the same time, a classmate appeared to defend her. There were even claims that the person who exposed Kim Hee-ra's school violence was also a perpetrator.
As a result, Kim Hee-ra declined her scheduled grants appearance on 'SNL Korea' and took time for self-reflection. Seven months later, in April of the previous year, her agency stated, "We met with the parties involved to organize the long-standing memories from last year's series of events, and we decided to support each other's lives." The school violence allegations have practically been resolved.
In her first official appearance since then, Kim Hee-ra said, "'Frida' is such a special work that I couldn't help but return to it," adding, "There is a line that says, 'The painting was the only means and opportunity to raise me.' 'Frida' is that kind of work for me."
She continued, "As I went through the two years, I had the belief and courage given to me by the current actors, the production company's representatives, and the staff, including the 'Frida' team. I am doing my best to return that belief and courage to the audience who believes in me and comes to see the performance. I think I will be able to reward those who watch with my acting."
Kim Hee-ra remarked, "Two years ago, I approach the stage with a much more serious and grateful heart than I did back then. I am trying to connect with the audience in each scene, offering the comfort and courage that I received. Therefore, I've often heard from the director and audience that it seems 'deeper than before.'"
Meanwhile, 'Frida' is a show musical that depicts the final moments of 'Frida Kahlo,' who lived in pain for life due to an unforeseen accident but never lost the joy of life, expressing her pain through art. Kim Hee-ra plays the role of the protagonist, Frida. The musical 'Frida' will be performed until September 7.
