Broadcaster Kim Byeong-chan, a former announcer, shared the story of being deceived by an acquaintance and losing hundreds of billions.
On the 25th, a video titled "Legendary announcer Kim Byeong-chan scammed out of hundreds of billions?! The reason Kim Byeong-chan raised Cho Young-goo(?)!" was uploaded to the "Kleumak Time" channel.
On this day, Kim Byeong-chan appeared as a guest and shared his story. During the conversation, Lee Dong-jun asked, "Having been loved as an announcer, why did you suddenly leave KBS?" and inquired about the reason for his shift to freelance work.
In response, Kim Byeong-chan explained, "I had a very close senior. He was my closest high school and university senior, to the extent that I could leave my family in his care. One day, he suggested that we take over the Cheongju bus terminal. Since I believed him, I gladly lent him money. It was several hundred million won."
He continued, "At that time, I was an announcer, but I was also MCing events and making a lot of money. However, I gradually started to fall into a quagmire as he was not managing the business properly and kept using the money elsewhere. Eventually, he sold his house and put that money in. I thought to myself, 'This is not good. Just because I'm a celebrity, if I go into business and mess up, it would be a disaster.' So I decided I had to focus on that. The scale was quite large, and I even became the CEO, but the money borrowed from the bank exceeded 40 billion won. That's one of the reasons I became a freelancer."
He then added, "Fortunately, the Cheongju Umin Foundation, led by Chairman Jang Deok-soo of Chungbuk Soju, took it over. Because he took over, I was fortunately able to escape that crisis. That person worked extremely hard, and after various twists and turns, he completed that project. It's a project worth 700 billion won. Now it has been completed and received approval as the modernization project of the Cheongju bus terminal. It's now an enormous building."
In response, Lee Dong-jun asked, "Was the money invested then recovered, or did you just give up on it?" Kim Byeong-chan replied, "Many people are curious about that, but in reality, it's a forfeiture. At that time, because the company was in a crisis with its capital eroded, I couldn't demand my rights since he was taking over the situation. I felt grateful just that he was taking over."
Lee Dong-jun remarked, "Celebrities are gullible. They often think, 'It must be okay, they're making money,' and make mistakes." In response, Kim Byeong-chan shared his honest thoughts, saying, "There's something important I want to convey regarding this. Economic education is significantly important for children. While we live in a capitalist society and strive to earn money competitively, we often discourage our children from studying early on if they say they want to earn money. I'm not saying to neglect studies, but if there are children interested in entrepreneurship or business skills from an early age, I want to encourage that."
He stated, "Typically, children from families with business backgrounds or economic power receive economic education naturally because their parents provide it. They grow up observing and understanding concepts like how much the cost is and what it means to borrow money from a bank in a natural environment. However, in typical households, parents often don't know, so children don't have the opportunity to receive economic education. But this is really important. If parents don't provide economic education later on, do you know where they end up going for it? They end up as adults like me, paying scammers a lot of money to receive economic education."
