BABYMONSTER achieved its first million-seller with the release of its first studio album, [DRIP], just over a year after its official debut, YG Entertainment announced on the 27th.
According to YG Entertainment, BABYMONSTER's first studio album, [DRIP], recorded a total cumulative sales of 1,011,352 copies as of that day. This milestone was reached about seven months after its release on Nov. 1 last year.
Earlier, the first studio album, [DRIP], lit a popular signal early on upon its announcement last year. The initial sales increased to 677,961 copies, which is 1.7 times higher than the previous [BABYMONS7ER], and recorded an order quantity of 820,000 copies a week after its release. After that, it steadily increased its sales and achieved million-seller status.
As album sales are considered one of the indicators of core fandom, this reflects the steep rise of BABYMONSTER. The overwhelming live performance skills recently demonstrated in its debut world tour and various broadcasts around the world are believed to be the catalyst for expanding its global fandom.
Additionally, with a busy lineup of activities scheduled for the latter half of this year, the final sales figures are expected to rise further. BABYMONSTER will begin with 'HOT SAUCE' on July 1, followed by a second single in September and a mini-album in October, and will also expand its presence with participation in Japan's largest music festival, 'Summer Sonic,' on Aug. 16.
Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER's new song 'HOT SAUCE' is an old-school hip-hop track infused with a vibe from the mid to late 1980s. It promises to have a refreshing charm that will color this summer, and will raise the comeback atmosphere by sequentially releasing YouTube content including performance videos and dance practice videos.
