The amazing physical abilities of Jeong-woo, the second son of former national fencing sabre representative and Olympic champion Kim Jun-ho, have been revealed.
In the episode of KBS2TV's entertainment program 'Return of Superman' aired on the 25th, a scene was shown where Kim Jun-ho's son Jeong-woo underwent a physical development assessment. Unlike the careful first son, Eun-woo, who behaves like a cautious prince, Jeong-woo showed curiosity and strength, appearing to be a talent in sports at first glance.
Seeing Jeong-woo's abundant strength, sportsmanship, and perseverance, Kim Jun-ho asked, "Do you want to fence, do taekwondo, or do hapkido?" Jeong-woo cheerfully replied, "Fencing!" This response left Kim Jun-ho disheartened. Generally, those who achieve great success in one field do not wish to pass on their vocation to their children. For instance, figure skating legend Kim Yuna, who has written history in the sport, has refrained from encouraging her child to engage in sports, stating in a roundabout way that she respects her child's wishes.
Kim Jun-ho once again asked Jeong-woo, "What do you want to do among taekwondo, taekwondo, taekwondo, and taekwondo?" There were no options. Nevertheless, Jeong-woo brightly exclaimed, "Fencing!"
Ultimately, Kim Jun-ho took Jeong-woo to a sports development center. Kim Jun-ho said with a lack of expectation, "Jeong-woo is not at an age where he can recognize fencing. I just hope he enjoys it." He went on to say, "Right now, I should be Coach, not Dad," and attempted to train Jeong-woo. When it came to the 'Pangte' stance, where you advance with your front foot to attack, Jeong-woo quickly mastered the stance with feet faster than words.
Jeong-woo even challenged air climbing. His ability to ascend a slope of about 70 degrees with just his toes clearly set him apart from his peers, who typically climb using their heels.
The last test conducted was a stepping stone test. This test assesses intelligence and balance simultaneously. Jeong-woo was unstoppable. His speed in running, power in knocking things down, and his lower body strength in maintaining balance from heights were all impressive. Kim Jun-ho humbly asked, "There must be children who can keep up with Jeong-woo, right?" The coach affirmed, "I haven't seen any child perform as well as Jeong-woo so far."
Jeong-woo, measuring 88.5 cm and weighing 13.5 kg, was assessed by the coach, who remarked, "His muscle mass exceeds that of an average child." He added, "The arch of the foot forms between ages 3 and 6, and Jeong-woo's arch development is at an outstanding level compared to his peers."
The coach further explained, "When climbing something like a rock wall, you typically step with the soles of your feet, but Jeong-woo has strong ankles. It's things like balance beams and vaulting mats that his peers cannot do," suggesting, "I believe he should be engaged in sports from a young age."
Kim Jun-ho appeared somewhat troubled. He expressed, "I've never considered a career in sports, but I'm wondering if Jeong-woo has a talent for it and whether I should encourage him. I'm worried about it." He noted, "Since he's among the top 1% based on professional data, but his small and stocky style might be a disadvantage in fencing. If he does engage in sports, I would prefer to have him do something other than fencing," showing reluctance about fencing.
