The prosecution has sought a two-year prison term for the defendant who has perpetrated years of ongoing cyberbullying against actress Shin Se-kyung.
The Present Company, Shin Se-kyung's agency, stated on the 26th through an official statement, "The prosecution has sought a two-year prison term for the defendant charged with ongoing cyberbullying against actress Shin Se-kyung."
According to the agency, the defendant repeatedly threatened not only the actress but also fans, family members, and acquaintances through malicious slander, dissemination of false information, and insulting behavior over a long period via online platforms. This has caused serious emotional harm not only to the actress but also to those around her, and the defendant is currently awaiting the first trial verdict after being arrested by the police. This is an unusual measure for malicious comment cases.
The Present Company stated, "We have secured numerous pieces of evidence related to additional malicious postings and trolls, and we plan to respond with the same standards for similar cases in the future."
During the trial, the defendant's legal representative noted, "The defendant, who has been living in seclusion, hopes to return to society and is currently working part-time for 14 hours a week," and pleaded for leniency. The defendant has also reportedly stated, "I acknowledge all charges." In response, the prosecution sought a two-year prison sentence, considering the severity of the repeated threats and malicious comments.
The agency emphasized, "We prioritize the legal rights and interests of our artists and employees above all else, and we will not consider any leniency for the perpetrator," adding, "We will respond firmly and decisively using all legal means if similar acts occur in the future. We must ensure that innocent people do not suffer repeatedly due to someone else's distorted desires; the perpetrator must take responsibility in accordance with the law and principles of justice, no matter how long it takes," and they also expressed gratitude by saying, "The valuable reports from fans have been a great help."
