In the released photo, Moon Geun-young revealed the trophy for Best New Actress in the series institutional sector at the 23rd Directors' Cut Awards through Netflix's "Hell." This marks her first win in approximately 10 years since receiving the Best Actress in a Mini-Series Award and Teen Star Award at the SBS Drama Awards in 2015.
In "Hell 2," Moon Geun-young portrayed the character Teacher Haet-sal. Teacher Haet-sal is a key propagandist for the fanatic group Arrowhead, spreading another false belief distinct from the New Truth Society and plunging the world further into chaos, leaving a deep impression with her striking makeup and transformation.
After experiencing the joy of her win through "Hell," Moon Geun-young noted, "I often feel like I have become cliché. My face and my acting feel obvious and unexciting... I sincerely thank Director Yeon Sang-ho for finding a new face for me! I would also like to say to the staff and fellow actors who filmed with me - you all worked very hard!"
She added, "I believe that I am limitless. I hope more people believe that! I will also strive to be an entertaining actress to repay that belief!"
In February 2017, Moon Geun-young was diagnosed with acute compartment syndrome and underwent surgery four times. She focused on recovering her health and made her comeback through "Hell 2" after the KBS Drama Special 2021 "The Memory's Whisper" aired in 2021. At the time, Moon Geun-young showed a slightly fuller appearance and said, "I'm completely healed now, and I'm in a very healthy state. Although I have gained a little weight, I'm on a diet while watching my reaction videos every day, so I hope you support my success in dieting instead of worrying about my health now!"
