A life story full of laughter will be revealed on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block.'
On today (25th, Wed) at 8:45 p.m., the 299th episode of 'You Quiz on the Block (directed by Kwak Cheong-ha and Hong Jin-joo, written by Lee Eon-joo)' features international student On-yu from Equatorial Guinea, actor Shim Eun-kyung, who has become Yoo Jae-seok's laughter button, and creator Lala, who has 1.85 million subscribers.
On-yu, a college student who came to study from Equatorial Guinea to Busan, is looking for 'You Quiz.' After five years in Korea, On-yu plans to share her journey of studying 12 hours a day to earn a level 5 in the Korean language proficiency test and becoming a 'Korean language proficient.' In addition to her current activities at Busan University of Foreign Studies as a superstar, her passion for Korean studies, which includes her love for Dak-galbi pan-fried rice and four-cut photos, adds interest. Reflecting on her family back home, she will also share experiences of various part-time jobs, such as working on a chicken farm and as a parcel delivery load/unload worker. An episode highlighting her becoming a fan of Dr. Oh Eun-young's program is expected to draw attention. Viewers will also see behind-the-scenes about winning a popularity award with 'One Glass of Makgeolli' in 'National Singing Contest' and live performances that heated up the filming set of 'You Quiz.' In this broadcast, viewers will meet all the stories of On-yu, a youth full of enthusiasm and dreams, who wishes to establish an embassy of Equatorial Guinea in Korea.
Viewers will also hear about actor Shim Eun-kyung, who made an impact in variety shows with her delightful reactions. Shim recently drew attention in a show with Lee Yi-kyung, with a chemistry reminiscent of a disastrous blind date, becoming Yoo Jae-seok's laughter button. On this day, Shim will reveal episodes from the variety show where she appeared 11 years ago, while also sharing the story of why she cut ties with the variety industry afterward, bringing laughter. Having started as a child actor, Shim, now an actress in her 22nd year since debut, also draws interest with her unusual journey. She plans to share the story of her sudden move to the U.S. for studying abroad after the success of the movie 'Sunny' and episodes that unfolded during her studying abroad experience. In particular, viewers will learn about the shocking story when her friends were startled after watching her movies.
The behind-the-scenes of participating in the movie 'Miss Granny' with director Hwang Dong-hyuk, along with her journey to become the first Korean actress to win the Best Actress Award at the Japan Academy, is also expected to attract interest. Shim Eun-kyung's confession about wanting to start a band in Japan and conquer Tokyo Dome, along with her edgy dance skills covering the choreography of 'Noona, You're So Pretty (SHINee),' will also grab attention. Notably, Yoo Jae-seok expressed his desire to collaborate more with Shim Eun-kyung, showing that he is captivated by her unpredictable charm, thereby raising anticipation for the show.
The story of creator Lala (real name Yoo Ra), who has embraced life in her 58-year-old dog year character 'Lee Myung-hwa,' is also drawing interest. Known as the tenant of room 502, Lala's mother, Park Young-rim, joined her on set. Lala shares how the world of Lee Myung-hwa and room 502 began, along with behind-the-scenes of her accepting the character Lee Myung-hwa as 'real' after meeting Sunwoo Yong-yeo, bringing laughter. The unusual childhood of Lala, who secretly raised 20 hamsters at home despite having a high difficulty level in parenting, and the moments of her fiercely living while doing various part-time jobs like working at a meat restaurant, factory, wedding hall, and Japanese confectionery will also be shared. A colorful story about her daughter will be revealed by her mother, along with a relentless back-and-forth conversation between the two that will keep the laughs rolling.
The story of Lala's life turnaround, who gained 1.85 million subscribers, is also intriguing. Lala, who once had only three viewers, achieved tremendous success after introducing the character Lee Myung-hwa but confessed, 'Actually, it was negative,' revealing that she lost all the money she earned and saved over six years, which is expected to draw attention. Viewers can expect to see behind-the-scenes of the trot songs 'Real Deal' and 'It's So Much,' which Lala collaborated on with Jang Yoon-jung, the birth story of her character Yul aimed at capturing the Y2K sentiment, and live performances she presents. The sight of her performing her signature talent of playing the double flute, along with her mother's energetic dance time overflowing with joy, is forecasted to create a lively atmosphere.
