Actress Im Soo-jung transforms into a 'madam' of the 1970s in 'Low Life.'
The Disney+ original series 'Low Life' (written by Kang Yoon-sung and Ahn Seung-hwan, directed by Kang Yoon-sung, abbreviated as Low Life) revealed a still cut of Im Soo-jung on the 25th. Im Soo-jung grants a role as 'Yang Jeong-sook,' the mistress of Heungbaek Industrial, who knows how to roll in money.
'Low Life' is a drama about diligent, hard-working villagers who deceive and are deceived while competing to claim a treasure ship buried beneath the sea. It is adapted from the webtoon of the same name by writer Yoon Tae-ho, who has received acclaim for works like 'Misaeng' and 'Moss.'
Im Soo-jung, who has played a variety of characters across different genres in films like 'Single in Seoul,' 'All About My Wife,' and dramas like 'Melancholia' and 'Search: WWW,' takes on the role of 'Yang Jeong-sook' in 'Low Life.' She is a character with exceptional intuition when it comes to money, trusted by Heungbaek Industrial Chairman 'Cheon Hwang-sik' (Jang Kwang). However, she also harbors strong ambitions within. The curiosity grows regarding how 'Yang Jeong-sook,' who reads money-making opportunities brilliantly, will navigate her path.
The revealed character still combines a neat yet elegant 1970s styling with an unwavering gaze, capturing the charisma of 'Yang Jeong-sook.' Furthermore, the sharp look as she gazes straight ahead, with her hands clasped, portrays 'Yang Jeong-sook's' unyielding desire in the presence of money and hints at a tension-filled narrative ahead.
Im Soo-jung noted, "I wanted to take on a challenge because this new role has a different texture compared to characters I've played until now." She also conveyed, "'Yang Jeong-sook' is very faithful to her desires and shows no hesitation in revealing them. She is a character who moves forward without regard for anything else to fulfill her aspirations," raising expectations for Im Soo-jung's intense transformation in this work.
Director Kang Yoon-sung praised Im Soo-jung, saying, "She has an outstanding interpretation of the character. She has depicted various personalities realistically and not overly exaggerated, as if they are real people."
'Low Life,' directed by Kang Yoon-sung, who received acclaim for 'Casino,' is considered one of the most anticipated works of this summer, featuring intricate direction and unpredictable relationships among the intertwined characters. It is set to premiere on Disney+ on July 16.
