Dex is set to officially begin acting as actor Kim Jin-young. Director Oh Gi-hwan of 'I Shopping' revealed the directorial points and behind-the-scenes stories of the work.
The new ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'I Shopping' (directed by Oh Gi-hwan / written by Ahn So-jeong / produced by Group 8, Take One Studio), which will premiere on July 21 at 10 p.m., is an action thriller depicting the desperate survival and revenge of children who narrowly survive after being abandoned by their adoptive parents. Based on a Kakao webtoon that won the 'Best Creativity Award' at the International Content Market SPP 2017 and has recorded over 51 million views, it has garnered significant attention even before its broadcast.
With the first broadcast about a month away, director Oh Gi-hwan, who is in charge of 'I Shopping', shared the directorial points and production behind-the-scenes. Oh noted, "This work raises the most fundamental question of my entire directing career," adding, "The script development period was particularly long, and even before being a director, I want to watch this drama as a viewer as soon as possible," expressing his unique affection for the project. He continued, "'I Shopping' is a work that prompts reflection on universal family relationships," stating, "I directed it hoping that through this dark story, we may find each other's brightness."
Director Oh Gi-hwan also explained the charms of the actors appearing in the work. He expressed gratitude, saying, "Actress Yum Jung-ah was, in a word, a general. It goes without saying that she acts well and accurately reads the overall drama situation. Each time I felt shaky, she calmly pointed out the direction of the play, which was a great help to me as a director."
Regarding actress Won Jina, he said she seemed like "an agent on a special mission" and added, "She handled most of the action scenes almost without a double and maintained a strong center in all scenes filled with emotional currents." He noted, "Actors Choi Young-jun and Kim Jin-young both stably portrayed their characters, showcasing a strong presence, and all the actors completed a perfect acting ensemble," raising expectations.
Director Oh Gi-hwan highlighted keywords for the work such as 'special settings', 'tension-filled story', and 'diverse action', stating, "The intense events rapidly unfold, which is a differentiating point of 'I Shopping'. The powerful settings and cinematic development, where darkness and brightness violently collide and coexist, will bring thrilling thrills to viewers."
Director Oh Gi-hwan discussed the key points of watching the drama, saying, "'I Shopping' possesses more outrageous settings than any other drama. Attracted by that intensity, I decided to direct it, but at the same time, I felt that something too strong is not genuinely strong. Therefore, I tried to include comedy and emotion among the strong scenes."
