Actress Cha Chung-hwa revealed the circumstances behind her decision to step down from projects she was scheduled to star in due to pregnancy.
On the 16th, Kim Jung-nan's YouTube channel featured Kim Sun-young, Cha Chung-hwa, and Jang So-yeon, who appeared together in the tvN drama Crash Landing on You, sharing updates and behind-the-scenes talks.
That day, Cha Chung-hwa recalled her situation during her pregnancy, saying, "After becoming pregnant, I had to step down from all three projects I was scheduled to play significant roles in." She continued, "I thought that being pregnant and performing action scenes or filming underwater scenes could be a burden to my fellow actors," explaining the reasoning behind her voluntary withdrawal.
Cha Chung-hwa got married to a younger entrepreneur in 2023, and three months later announced her pregnancy, receiving a lot of congratulations. She then paused her activities briefly following childbirth. She is currently back and actively continuing her work.
She said, "The role I was supposed to play was a villain. I was so happy thinking, 'Finally, a villain! Yay!' But since it was my first pregnancy, I didn't know how my body would change," adding, "I thought I could do it and even completed the costume fitting, but on set, there were many worries about how to adjust the action scenes and how to handle underwater scenes. In the end, I decided to withdraw, but I cried a lot."
Listening to the story, Kim Sun-young joked, "Give me that role; I think I could have done well," and Cha Chung-hwa laughed, saying, "That wasn't mine."
In particular, Cha Chung-hwa quoted her mother's words, which evoked emotion. She said, "My mom said, 'Chung-hwa, you are carrying the most precious project of your life. Why are you upset? Drama can always come back later.' After hearing that, I focused on prenatal education."
She added, "I've focused on acting throughout my life, but with my pregnancy, the existence of someone other than myself has become more important. So now I feel that the time I have to practice acting is more valuable."
When Kim Jung-nan asked, "Is it a daughter or a son?" Cha Chung-hwa smiled brightly and replied, "It's a daughter. She is currently walking."
