On the 5th episode of 'International Students' Um Nam-seon' aired on T-Cast E Channel, Ryu Soo-young, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Ki-hyun, the 'Food-Knowledge Trio,' showcased their 'study abroad recipe' for the first day of study in Brunei. Ryu Soo-young absorbed the Portuguese recipe with his 'food-knowledge' demeanor, demonstrating it at a department store, while also celebrating the good news of his wife Park Ha-sun winning the lottery.
In the 5th episode of 'International Students' Um Nam-seon' aired on the 16th, they learned the basics of 'sambal,' the all-purpose seasoning of Brunei, as well as two flavors with green chili. The successor of the rice bowl master noted, "In our cuisine, there is a concept called 'Aga Aga,'" introducing a term that signifies the Bruneian 'hand taste.' Ryu Soo-young expressed his infinite love for family, saying, "I can't believe I can make this... If I prepare it, my wife will like it," about the sambal recipe rich in 'Aga Aga.'
Yoon Kyung-ho, equipped with a dad joke stating, "You need to dress in a bourgeois style in Brunei(?)," headed to a restaurant by water taxi along with Ryu Soo-young and Ki-hyun. Upon encountering a total of 14 types of Bruneian 'banchan' with different compositions, Ryu Soo-young marveled, "This is a real Korean traditional meal." Then, when the staff brought out the staple food of Brunei, the giant slime-like 'ambuyat,' the trio was taken aback. With a taste similar to Cheongpomuk, ambuyat dominated Bruneian dining tables after World War II instead of rice.
Completely captivated by ambuyat, Yoon Kyung-ho beamed, saying, "I want to cook something you can eat in the summer." However, Ryu Soo-young teased, "Is today a day for disasters?" and Ki-hyun added, "It reminds me a bit of the first day in Portugal," evoking laughter as they recalled Yoon Kyung-ho's major failure on the first day of study. Unfazed, Yoon Kyung-ho returned to his lodging and set to work on making cold ambuyat rice. After a failed first attempt, he sent out an SOS to Ryu Soo-young and finally attained a form of ambuyat, but unlike what they saw at the restaurant, it turned a golden, chewy, and bouncy appearance, leading him to despair.
Yoon Kyung-ho's despair quickly became contagious to Ryu Soo-young. Ryu Soo-young, trying to make sambal seasoning with Korean ingredients, screamed, "It's burnt! It's a disaster!" He calmly disposed of the burnt pot as evidence, salvaged the sauce, and began frying chicken tenderloins. Coated with a special mayonnaise sauce, Ryu Soo-young received high praise from Ki-hyun for its 'violent appearance' and confidently introduced his 'Spicy Seasoned Mozzarella Chicken Burger,' saying, "This is the culmination of my five years in food broadcasting and all my cooking skills."
Meanwhile, Ki-hyun, the 'dessert prince' who fell into the world of desserts, attempted 'honey rice cake' inspired by Bruneian traditional desserts. The main ingredient of kaya jam, 'Pandan' leaves, is used in various desserts for their sweet and nutty flavor. Ki-hyun sprinkled natural sugar powder between the glutinous rice flour instead of honey. However, during the steaming process, Ryu Soo-young shouted, "Shouldn't we lower the heat?" prompting another crisis. In fact, the completed form resembled pancakes more than 'honey rice cakes.' Ki-hyun lamented, "I heard that Ryu Soo-young hyung should ensure no water falls on the lid while steaming. It turned out mushy like a chewy rice cake." However, contrary to worries, the production crew quickly cleared away the empty dishes, and the trio's first-day study recipe received 'great acclaim.'
Meanwhile, the unique 'study abroad recipes' developed by Ryu Soo-young, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Ki-hyun in Brunei will arrive at Hyundai Department Store in Pangyo. From the 21st to the 29th, the 'International Students' Um Nam-seon' pop-up store at Hyundai Department Store in Pangyo will showcase various goods as well as the menu featured in the broadcast.
