Director Kim Byung-woo of 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' revealed the reason for casting BLACKPINK's Jisoo.
On the morning of 17th, the production report for the film 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' was held at Lotte Cinema in Kwonneung, Seoul. Attendees included lead actors Ahn Hyo-seop, Lee Min-ho, Chae Soo-bin, Shin Seung-ho, Nana, and director Kim Byung-woo.
'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' (directed by Kim Byung-woo, provided by Lotte Entertainment, Smilegate, distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by Realize Pictures Co., Ltd., co-produced by MYM Entertainment, Smilegate Realize, The Present Company) is a fantasy action film about a world from a novel that becomes reality on the day the novel, serialized for over 10 years, concludes. The story follows the only reader, Kim Reader (played by Ahn Hyo-seop), and the protagonist Yu Jung-hyuk (played by Lee Min-ho) as they struggle to survive in a destroyed world. The film, which has a production cost of about 30 billion won, is based on a popular web novel of the same name and has been completed into a movie following the webtoon. Director Kim Byung-woo, known for works like 'The Terror Live' (2013) and 'PMC: The Bunker' (2018), is returning with his next project after seven years.
BLACKPINK's Jisoo played the high school student Lee Ji-hye, who refers to Yu Jung-hyuk as her master. This is her first on-screen debut role, excluding a special appearance in the film 'Dr. Cheon and The Lost Talisman' (2023).
Regarding the reason for casting Jisoo, director Kim Byung-woo said, "The casting criteria were clear. The first was to find someone who could work hard. When I first met Jisoo, the enthusiasm was strong, and she was very dedicated during the pre-reading sessions."
He added, "Although her role is not large, I thought it would be great to have an actor who could draw more attention. (Jisoo) worked really hard on fitting the character, and I am very satisfied with her performance now."
Along with this, about the setting where Lee Ji-hye, played by Jisoo, throws away a sword related to Admiral Yi Sun-sin and holds a gun instead, he noted, "I fully understand that fans who loved the original work are worried about this point through the trailer or photos. I believe it will be fully understandable when they see the film rather than through long explanations."
Meanwhile, 'Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint' is set to be released on July 23.
