Violist Kim Nam-jung will perform at the ceremony for 'Global ALS Awareness Day' on June 19 at Cheonggye Plaza.
The Korea ALS Association (Chairman Seong Jeong-jun, Department of Neurology, Seoul National University Hospital) hosts 'Global ALS Awareness Day' annually, conducting events with members worldwide to raise awareness and social practices regarding ALS. From June 11 to July 10, a 'Walking Together Campaign' (Walk On Route Challenge) will be held for the general public. On June 19, the 'Cheonggyecheon Walk Along the Waterway' will also take place, and Kim Nam-jung will perform outdoors with Alexander Sheikin and Park Seong-wan from 'Ako' at 3 p.m.
Kim Nam-jung began his association with the Korea ALS Association as an ambassador in 2014, during the ice bucket challenge that swept the globe. He shared videos of himself and his two children pouring ice water and began his donation activities, including personal donations, and he did not hesitate to perform in uncomfortable venues for the sake of ALS patients.
The Korea ALS Association stated, 'Mr. Kim Nam-jung has performed several times on the stage of the symposium for ALS treatment research, as well as inviting ALS patients to his solo concerts,' adding, 'He even held the bow of his viol in the middle of Cheonggye Plaza among patients using wheelchairs and ventilators, swaying in the wind.'
Kim Nam-jung noted, 'I believe that music is not something that is enjoyed only by a specific class,' adding, 'Classical music has the power to heal people's hearts. I am striving to present good performances wherever I am.'
Kim Nam-jung has been consistently invited to perform recitals at world-famous concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has received a doctorate in integrated arts and founded the association of convergence performing arts, expanding his role as a planner and artistic director, continuing a complex and passionate path. Recently, he was appointed as a non-executive director of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, which generated significant attention in the classical music world.
