Former national rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae (31) shared her honest feelings about pregnancy and childbirth through YouTube.
On the 16th, Son Yeon-jae revealed her parenting experiences in a video released on her YouTube channel "Son Yeon-jae sonyeonjae," saying, "I want to talk about the pregnancy and childbirth stories that many people have been curious about."
In the video, Son Yeon-jae said, "My husband wanted to have a child quickly," adding, "I wasn't in a hurry and suggested we think about it in about a year. As the newlywed period flew by and the planned season approached, I began to feel emotional."
She expressed to her husband, "I can't get pregnant," sharing her feelings; however, he said, "It's natural to have such thoughts. Your body will change," showing understanding and consideration. Son Yeon-jae stated that this conversation prompted her to refocus, planning to conceive between April and May.
Son Yeon-jae noted, "It felt so strange to set a date. I thought it would be nice if it happened naturally, so I went on a month-long trip to Europe. When I returned, I found out I was pregnant."
When asked if she had an idea about the baby's gender, she said, "Since I am an only child and have no brothers, I didn't know what baby boys were like. I thought I had to have a daughter, and I hoped the second would be a son. So I didn't think it would be a boy."
Son Yeon-jae explained, "My husband said he hoped it would be a boy," adding with a smile, "It seems that men have such fantasies. He has plans to go camping and play sports with our son."
She also recalled, "I have never gone to the hospital alone until I gave birth. I always went with my husband. I didn't cry, but my husband shed tears when he heard the baby's gender."
Meanwhile, Son Yeon-jae made history in Korean rhythmic gymnastics by finishing 5th in individual all-around at the 2012 London Olympics and 4th at the 2016 Rio Olympics. After officially retiring in 2017, she has been dedicated to nurturing young rhythmic gymnasts as the head of "Lif Studio."
She married financier Lee Jun-hyo (40) in 2022 and gave birth to a son in February of last year.
