The film "Shinmyeong" (directed by Kim Nam-kyun and produced by Yeolgong Film Production Co.) is creating a strong box office sensation in Korea, and on the 15th day after its release, on the 16th, it surpassed a cumulative audience of 600,000, showcasing its unstoppable box office power.
Produced with a low budget of 1.5 billion won, "Shinmyeong" has been writing a miraculous box office myth since its release, maintaining a high seat sales rate amid competition with blockbusters, thanks only to enthusiastic word of mouth from audiences and the craze for repeat viewings. "A shocking story more real than reality," "the actors' godlike performances," and "a metaphor-filled hot spot where new things are discovered with each watch" are among the continuous praise from real viewers, which has yet to cool down as it approaches its third week of release.
To repay this hot support, a stage greeting took place last weekend (from the 14th to the 15th) in Cheonan, Daejeon, Jeonju, and Gwangju, where main cast members Kim Gyu-ri, Ahn Nae-sang, Joo Seong-hwan, and Myung Gye-nam attended for a special meeting with the audience. When the actors appeared, the theater was filled with cheers and applause, and the audience showed their unwavering support and encouragement to the actors.
The actors expressed their overwhelming feelings by saying, "We didn't expect to fill a theater all the way in the provinces. We are truly grateful," and "Seeing each of your eyes makes us feel that we made this film really well."
"Shinmyeong" is Korea's first occult political thriller that depicts the fierce struggle between a woman, "Yoon Ji-hee" (played by Kim Gyu-ri), who tries to seize power using mysterious powers, and a journalist who uncovers the enormous truth hidden above.
Meanwhile, having surpassed 600,000 audience members, the film "Shinmyeong" has officially started its box office race toward 1 million viewers and is currently screening in theaters nationwide.
