The heartbreaking family history of the 'Martian couple' has been revealed.
On the 16th, MBC's 'Oh Eun-young Report – Marriage Hell (abbreviated Marriage Hell)' featured a wife who feels she is heading towards Andromeda the more she talks with her husband, and a frustrated husband whose worldview is not understood by his wife, the 'Martian couple'.
The defector wife shed tears, saying, "My parents are not here, and I only have siblings," as she thought of her family left behind in North Korea. She continued, "Every time I think of my mom and talk about my sister, I can't help but cry. It breaks my heart that I can't do anything for them."
She recalled, "I worked at the same company with my father, the eldest sister, and the second sister. When it was past quitting time, my father did not come home. The next day, when I asked, they said, 'A black car came and took your father away.' He disappeared after being taken by the security department. A week later, my mother passed away. She died from a brain hemorrhage due to stress."
She added, "From that time on, my older sister had to feed the four younger siblings. It was the toughest time in North Korea. It was really hard during the 'Arduous March.' Many people starved to death and became homeless. I defected to ease my sister's burden. I feel guilty that I am the only one living a comfortable life."
Regarding the difficulties she faced after coming to South Korea, she explained, "I can endure the physical hardships, but living alone in a foreign land without family is the hardest part. My husband should be there for me as family, but he can't, which makes me think of other people."
The wife wanted to have a child. However, her husband suggested adoption or a sperm bank. She said, "I heard that my husband had a vasectomy when he was young. Isn't it possible to reverse the surgery at any time?" Her husband replied, "The reason I don't want to have a child is that my father passed away when I was 4 years old. I grew up watching my brother and my mom fight. When they argued, it wasn't like a typical family fight; they threw everything around. I grew up in a fighting household. I absolutely do not want to bring a baby into this. I don't want to show that kind of environment." He recalled his unhappy childhood, adding that his father ended his life after a quarrel with his mother, shocking everyone.
The husband explained, "I had two brothers and two sisters, and my older brother also ended his life. I was in middle school at the time. My brother was bullied by seniors during his military service. He came home and drank pesticide." He continued, "I tried to understand my emotions while studying my heart. I noticed that whenever something happened, I would get angry, so I tried to calm my mind."
Oh Eun-young analyzed, "He does not want to pass down that DNA. There is a fear of what will happen if my child goes through unhappy times. It is a very painful and distressing feeling. If he loves his wife, he should consider restoration surgery. At times, he just dislikes himself so much for having this DNA."
