Jeong Heon-hee shared her connection with director Park Chan-wook.
On the 16th, Channel A's "Close Friends Documentary – The Four-Person Table" (hereafter referred to as The Four-Person Table) featured singer Jeong Heon-hee, who invited her close friends, In-Soon Lee, Park Sang-min, and Park Gu-yoon, to throw a party.
Jeong Heon-hee, who is referred to as a living history, said, "When I sang 'Fog' at 17, I sang it without thinking, in a bright voice. I have been singing for over 60 years, but I haven't sung 'Fog' for the past 10 years. But I received a call asking me to sing 'Fog.' They said it was needed as the theme song for director Park Chan-wook's movie 'Decision to Leave.' I joked, saying it had almost been 60 years; what are you talking about? They told me they would withdraw the movie if I didn't sing. They wanted me to sing with Song Chang-sik."
She added, "We went to Misari together. (Song Chang-sik) had vocal cord surgery twice, so he said he probably wouldn't be able to sing. He suggested that since his voice is fine now, we should go ahead and record. He seemed to be very enthusiastic about it."
Upon her close friend's request, Jeong Heon-hee performed 'Fog' live on the spot and expressed, "I was so nervous as if I were auditioning." Jeong Heon-hee stated, "If I had stopped singing, they wouldn't have reached out to me. This kind of luck happens. It was possible because I kept singing. It can happen suddenly. There is definitely a possibility of a resurgence."
Jeong Heon-hee also recalled a past incident that garnered significant public attention. She said, "It was when I won the Singer Award at the 1972 Tokyo International Song Festival. During the closing at the Citizen's Hall, the curtains caught fire. I had gone to the restroom next to the stage when my manager called me, saying there was a fire and to get out quickly. I thought he was joking. When I rushed out, the stage was already in flames."
She continued, "When I opened the door to the small hall at the back, a strong wind blew from behind. My skirt caught fire, and I tore it off. As people rushed out, the glass doors shattered. I lost consciousness with my hanbok front open. I suffered an unknown fever of 41 degrees for two months. I was hospitalized for a month. They said someone had ingested something flammable." She also recounted how she saved the lives of her brothers during the big fire at the Dae-Yun-Gak.
Jeong Heon-hee is the person who founded the Singer Association. He remarked, "Before BTS and BLACKPINK, it took a long time to be a trainee. I said, 'This is a slave contract.' I urged, 'Cut it in half; singers can't live like this.' It's lucky if you succeed, but if you don't, you are tied up for life."
