SEVENTEEN member Jun was invited to the Shanghai International Film Festival, showcasing a star presence befitting a leading actor.
On the 14th, Jun attended the opening ceremony of the 27th 'Shanghai International Film Festival' held at the Shanghai Grand Theatre, receiving the spotlight from local media. He walked the red carpet with director Larry Yang, who directed 'The Shadow's Edge,' and actors including Tony Leung and Zhang Zifeng, who are also featured in the film.
In a backstage interview, Jun said, 'Filming 'The Shadow's Edge' was not only a wonderful project, but it was also a journey for me to fulfill my dreams and an experience where I could learn a lot from two masters, Jackie Chan and Tony Leung.' He added, 'I am very grateful to my two seniors and to director Larry Yang, who made all of this possible. I was so happy to be part of this project.'
The 'Shanghai International Film Festival,' which began in 1993, is the only prestigious event in China certified by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAFP). Jun was invited to this event for the first time since his debut, demonstrating an elevated status as an actor.
'The Shadow's Edge' is a crime investigation drama that deals with the fierce confrontation between a notorious criminal organization and the police tracking them, set to be released in China on August 16. Jun plays the role of Hu Feng, a key member of the villainous group Yang Zhaodan, working alongside legendary actors such as Jackie Chan and Tony Leung. The film was showcased at the film market of the 78th Cannes Film Festival held last month, receiving significant attention from filmmakers across Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
Local reactions have been enthusiastic. After the release of the first trailer on the 10th, keywords related to Jun's real name 'Wen Junhui' and 'The Shadow's Edge' dominated Weibo's real-time search rankings. In the video, Jun not only performed high-speed action in a suit but also showcased complex fight scenes against Jackie Chan.
Jun made his movie debut in 'The Uninvited' in 2006 and won the Best Newcomer Award the following year at the Hong Kong Film Directors' Association Awards. He was the first child actor from China to be nominated for the Best New Actor category at the 27th Hong Kong Film Awards. In 2023, he won the Popularity Award at the Asia Content Awards & Global OTT Awards at the Busan International Film Festival for the youth romance drama 'Familia,' and he has been steadily expanding his acting spectrum by taking on the role of the protagonist Wen Liangjin in the fantasy comedy period drama 'Yun Qishi' last year.
