The first variety show in Korea to broadcast childbirth, TV CHOSUN's 'Our Baby Has Been Born' featured 'Soompoong Duo' Park Soo-hong and Yang Se-hyung following a day in the life of the 'Obstetrics Avengers' at the front lines of childbirth, confirming the passion of the medical staff who are sincere towards the 'mothers.'
The hospital visited by Park Soo-hong and Yang Se-hyung was the same place that captured the urgent birth of triplets on the earlier episode of 'Our Baby Has Been Born.' Park Soo-hong and Yang Se-hyung met the 'Obstetrics Avengers' team, comprising Professors Bae Jin-gon, Lee Gi-soo, Nam Seung-hyup, and Park Seong-eun, who exist to save high-risk mothers. Professor Bae Jin-gon, the center's director, was an expert with over 10,000 recorded deliveries, and the 'Obstetrics Avengers' had maintained a maternal mortality rate of 0% for 6 to 7 years, making them a true 'dream team of obstetrics.' First, Park Soo-hong joined Professor Nam Seung-hyup on rounds.
One mother expecting twins was in a rare case of 'monozygotic twin pregnancy with shared amniotic sacs.' Obstetrician Kim Ji-yeon, who served as a consultant, acknowledged, 'I've never seen this before, only read about it in books,' as it was indeed a very rare occurrence. In such cases, the fetuses could threaten each other's lives due to entanglement in their umbilical cords, so the mother had to undergo daily ultrasounds.
Although the situation was highly risky, Professor Nam Seung-hyup calmly stated, 'Providing reassurance is also part of a doctor's role,' and Park Soo-hong expressed his respect by saying, 'They even take care of mental care.' During the rounds, stories were shared about high-risk mothers, including one who had experienced a miscarriage with a naturally conceived fetus and became pregnant only after 10 rounds of in vitro fertilization, as well as another mother with low platelet counts facing impending cervical cerclage.
In response, Park Soo-hong said, 'Having also experienced tough times with in vitro fertilization, I understand how desperate it can be,' and he showed his empathy by offering warm encouragement to the mothers.
Meanwhile, 'Daddy wannabe' Yang Se-hyung followed the footsteps of 'Obstetrics Avengers' Captain Professor Bae Jin-gon all day, vividly covering the harrowing scenes inside and outside the operating room. The first surgery involved a mother who developed abnormal blood vessels after an ectopic pregnancy following the delivery of her second child, which posed a high risk of excessive bleeding. Lee Jung-min, having experienced an ectopic pregnancy among her 10 rounds of in vitro fertilization, immersed herself in watching the cesarean section procedure as if it were her own.
After successfully completing the surgery and taking a moment to catch their breath, the next mother arrived at the operating room. Before the surgery, Professor Bae Jin-gon remarked, 'Cesarean sections can involve significant blood loss, so flexibility is required, which always makes me tense.' Additionally, due to emergency patient calls, Professor Bae Jin-gon did not miss any phone notifications regarding emergency transfers even while in the operating room.
Although exhausted after finishing the surgery for a mother with uterine fibroids, making the cesarean section tricky, Professors Bae Jin-gon and Lee Gi-soo had no time to rest as they continued discussing another patient's case. Professor Lee Gi-soo acknowledged, 'Sometimes as a brother, sometimes as a teacher, he never hesitates to give advice. Watching Professor Bae Jin-gon makes me reflect on my attitude towards life,' recognizing the captain's attention to detail in not missing even the smallest things. The 'Obstetrics Avengers' demonstrated their sincere dedication solely to the mothers, providing a touching experience.
