Park Tae-hwan from 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant' expressed his filial piety toward his mother battling cancer.
A candid story about the legendary swimmer, who has made history in South Korean swimming, was revealed on the KBS2 entertainment program 'Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant', which aired on the 13th.
On that day, Park Tae-hwan, recalling his days as an active athlete, revealed, 'My daily routine actually started at 4 a.m. and ended at 10 p.m. I lived an unusual life for over 30 years. I think I always pushed myself hard without a carrot.' He shocked everyone by stating that he trained for 16 hours a day.
Becoming the youngest national representative at 14, he confessed about the reason he could endure the rigorous training, saying, 'My mother was battling cancer when I was young and it was tough for her. I thought I had to do everything I could, not just to be the best in South Korea in swimming, but for my parents.'
He continued, 'No matter how painful it felt, as if my heart would burst, I thought it was nothing compared to the pain my mother felt.' Lee Yeon-bok, who watched this, reacted, 'What a good son. He really matured quickly.'
Park Tae-hwan said, 'Swimming makes my breathing so hard that I feel like I'm going to burst and die, but I don't, right? I thought that compared to the pain my mother feels, this is just a matter of complaining.'
Park Tae-hwan particularly noted, 'Of course, I feel happiest when I come in first, but aside from that, I think giving my parents a house and buying them a car is what happiness is. That was a happy time for me.'
