Girls' Generation member and actress Seohyun has successfully transformed her acting in a bold manner.
In KBS2's new Wednesday-Thursday drama 'The First Night With the Duke' (written by Jeon Seon-young, directed by Lee Woong-hee and Kang Soo-yeon, planned and produced by Studio N and Monster Union), the hikikomori K (played by Seohyun) becomes the supporting character Cha Seon-taek in her favorite web novel 'The Tyrant's Obsessed Love'.
K's life was dark. Even delivery food was secretly received with caution, and watching her favorite web novel was the only joy. Messages on her phone consisted of debt collection, part-time job dismissal, and notifications of interview failures. There were no friends on social media reaching out to her, and seeing K on a feed decorated with various beauties of life, she ultimately decided to delete her account.
Perhaps having not seen the light for a long time, K had pale lips and a gaunt face, messy hair, wearing horn-rimmed glasses and stretched-out training attire. Upon learning that her favorite web novel 'The Tyrant's Obsessed Love' had been suspended, she fell into despair and got drunk, falling asleep. When she opened her eyes again, she found herself in a cozy room that felt like it belonged to a noble lady, infused with a delightful fragrance.
K realized that she had become the backup. Thanks to her maid Bangul-i (played by Oh Se-eun). Led by Bangul-i's hand to the family breakfast, she became even more bewildered. Her father, Prime Minister Cha Ho-yeol (played by Seo Hyeon-cheol), her mother, Lady Jeong Gyeong-buin Yoon Deok-joong (played by Yoon Yu-seon), and her overly affectionate and somewhat foolish three brothers delightedly adored the backup.
The backup said, "You can't leave something so expensive behind," and while mentioning, "Ah, the table filled with the sweat and toil of farmers and fishermen should not be wasted," he finished all the food in front of him. He pondered whether he was in a dream or reality. His capable, honorable, and kind father even handed him a large amount of money, encouraging him to dress up for the social gathering 'Dahonghoe' happening that night.
The backup exclaimed, "Is this life, where you are dressed up just by standing still, the life of a supporting character?" then joyfully said, "Then thank you! Why leave here?"
Above all, this place was the setting of her favorite web novel. She was thrilled to witness the kind and tenacious hero, Jo Eun-ae (played by Kwon Han-sol), and the warm-hearted secondary male lead, Jeong Su-gyeom (played by Seo Beom-jun), along with the main character, the royal hunting dog, Gyeong Seon-gun Ibeon (played by Ok Taecyeon) and his love story.
Despite her position being that of a mere supporting character, when the favorite female lead Jo Eun-ae faced harassment from the daughters of noble families, the backup resorted to making bomb shots, a modern novelty, to attract their attention. The skilled hands mixing various drinks showcased a flair like that of a hotel bartender, drawing an enthusiastic vibe, popular at every gathering. There was nobody who disliked such a backup. Soon, word spread throughout the capital, drawing crowds in front of his house wanting to taste his drinks.
The drinks, enjoyed merrily, turned the lovely noble lady Cha Seon-taek into a drunkard. Yet, she still smiled sweetly. Only the next morning, upon bumping into the male lead Ibeon's chest, did she finally hear him say, "You tormented me quite a bit last night; yet, you are surprised?" and slapped her own cheek, stunned. It was still no dream; it remained reality.
