Choo Ja-hyun, from 'Gyeonwoo and the Fairy,' transforms into a 'celebrity shaman' with two faces of a plot twist.
The new tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Gyeonwoo and the Fairy' (directed by Kim Yong-wan, written by Yang Ji-hoon, planned by CJ ENM, produced by Studio Dragon, DEXTER, and iOK Content Group) will premiere on the 23rd (Monday). On the 11th, the production revealed stills of Yeom-hwa (played by Choo Ja-hyun), whose unapproachable aura evokes chills.
'Gyeonwoo and the Fairy' is a romance about the reckless first love of 18-year-olds involving a boy destined to die and a shaman girl from Gen Z trying to prevent it. The story revolves around high school shaman Park Seong-a (played by Cho Yi-hyun) who confronts fate for her first love and Baek Gyeon-woo (played by Choo Young-Woo) who aims to reverse his destiny through the ordinary happiness she has opened for him. The youthful excitement promises to captivate viewers. Additionally, the various episodes featuring K-ghosts, each with their own unique stories, add another layer of enjoyment. Above all, director Kim Yong-wan, known for his exceptional directing across various genres such as 'The Wind Blows,' 'Method,' and 'If You Wish Upon Me,' teams up with the delicate writing of Yang Ji-hoon to further excite drama fans.
The contrasting atmosphere of Yeom-hwa, revealed that day, hints at how her role could be a variable in the mutual salvation romance between Park Seong-a and Baek Gyeon-woo. Yeom-hwa, a famous 'celebrity shaman,' conceals a captivating nature behind her graceful and kind appearance. Her smile, which shows no emotion, evokes chills.
Yeom-hwa's sharp gaze as she looks at Park Seong-a hints at an unusual relationship. Step-mother Yeom-hwa and 'Heavenly Fairy' Park Seong-a. However, it raises questions about how two people, who have chosen such different destinies, will become entangled and what stories lie hidden within Yeom-hwa, who became a ghost to survive.
Choo Ja-hyun expressed that the character 'Yeom-hwa,' which does not exist in the original work, approached her attractively, saying, "I was excited to see how I could portray the role of a shaman. I also had a desire to act as my own shaman as an actress." She added, "I felt a sense of responsibility to become a character that would remain memorable to viewers" while revealing her reason for choosing this work.
Regarding the character 'Yeom-hwa,' Choo Ja-hyun explained, "Yeom-hwa is a character who throws herself into hell and lives while destroying herself. The fact that she carries deep scars within herself made her feel more three-dimensional and tragic." She added that while watching Yeom-hwa's life, which cannot help but accept a tragic fate, viewers would also be able to feel sadness and tension together.
Meanwhile, the new tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Gyeonwoo and the Fairy' will premiere on the 23rd (Monday) at 8:50 p.m.
