The past of actor Gong Myoung has been revealed.
In the 10th episode of the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Second Shot at Love' (written by Myung Soo-hyun and Jeon Ji-hyun / directed by Jang Yu-jeong / produced by Studio Dragon / produced by How Pictures), which aired on the 10th, the backstory of Ui-jun (played by Gong Myoung) coming to Bocheon was unveiled.
Geum-joo (played by Choi Soo-young) was trying to donate her liver to her mother, Gwang-ok (played by Kim Sung-ryung), who was suffering from acute hepatitis, but Gwang-ok strongly refused, saying that she could not impose that responsibility on her daughter. Ui-jun conveyed Geum-joo's sincerity in wanting Gwang-ok to undergo surgery by saying, "Please do it for Geum-joo," and shared how much Geum-joo had struggled to overcome fatty liver disease, moving Gwang-ok's heart. Thus, Geum-joo was able to donate her liver to Gwang-ok, and the two mothers regained their health.
The birthday of Ui-jun has arrived. Ui-jun expressed his gratitude to Geum-joo, who prepared his birthday meal, a date, and a surprise party, while also showing a cautious side by saying, "You don't have to go this far for my birthday." It turns out that, in the past, when Ui-jun was working as a doctor in a hospital in Seoul, a nurse who celebrated his birthday suddenly died due to an unforeseen visit from his biological father. Consequently, Ui-jun lamented, saying, "Someone was hurt because of me, and they have to live with that pain. If I had been absent, nothing would have happened," adding to the sense of regret.
Gong Myoung portrays Ui-jun, who shows a gentle and bright smile to Geum-joo and the people of Bocheon, but in reality, he embodies a character who harbors significant trauma. He delicately acted out moments of enduring pain alone, such as dreaming nightmares with his biological father and visiting the shrine of the deceased nurse, intensifying the loneliness. Most notably, in a scene where he silently sheds tears in response to Geum-joo's comfort, "It's not your fault," the viewers were moved by how much Ui-jun had silently suffered and his deep sense of guilt.
