The second sentencing for broadcaster and former announcer Yoo Young-jae, who was convicted of forcibly molesting actress Sunwoo Eun-sook's older sister, has been postponed.
The Second Criminal Division of the Suwon High Court has postponed the appeal court ruling for Yoo Young-jae, who was sentenced to prison in the first trial and detained on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (forcible molestation due to familial relations), to July.
The second sentencing for Yoo Young-jae was scheduled for today (the 11th) after the conclusion of the hearings in the appeal court on April 16, but on the 9th, Yoo Young-jae's side applied for a change of the sentencing date, pushing it to July 23.
Yoo Young-jae is accused of forcibly molesting his ex-wife, Ms. A, by touching her body five times since 2023. Yoo Young-jae denied the accusations during police and prosecution investigations, as well as in the first trial, but the first court sentenced him to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
The court ordered him to complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment programs and imposed a 5-year employment restriction in organizations related to children, adolescents, and the disabled, along with being detained in court. Following the first sentencing, Yoo Young-jae appealed against the court's ruling, and the prosecution also submitted an appeal.
However, Yoo Young-jae's side said they appealed on the grounds of unfair sentencing, stating that in the second trial, he acknowledged the allegations. They noted that Yoo Young-jae deeply regrets his actions and lives with the intention of apologizing to the victim.
In his final statement, Yoo Young-jae said, "I reflect on my past time; I lacked awareness of the intimacy and sexual standards I held. I was wrong. I sincerely apologize to the victim who has suffered because of me and bow my head in deep apology to the victim who is enduring pain."
The prosecution requested a 5-year prison sentence, just as in the first trial.
Meanwhile, Sunwoo Eun-sook and Yoo Young-jae married in 2022 but divorced in April last year, just 1 year and 6 months later. Sunwoo Eun-sook filed an annulment lawsuit against Yoo Young-jae, citing the forcible molestation lawsuit against her older sister and suspicions regarding Yoo Young-jae's common-law marriage.
