Seo Jang-hoon and Lee Sugeun of 'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller' delivered a reality check to a participant's heartrending story.
On the broadcast of KBS Joy's 'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller' episode 319 aired on the 9th, a story was revealed about a participant who lost contact with her mother after suggesting sending three brothers with intellectual disabilities to a facility.
The participant, who is currently taking a short break from work, said she suggested to her mother that the brothers be placed in a facility because it became too difficult to manage them. She added that afterward, her mother cut off contact without any significant comments.
The participant revealed, 'I had to take care of my brothers since I was 8 years old,' stating that she experienced her father's domestic violence and her parents' divorce and remarriage. During the divorce, her father, who had custody, sent her to an orphanage while sending her brother with intellectual disabilities to their maternal grandmother's house. Later, when her parents remarried, they brought both children back home and had two more children, but they are currently divorced again.
In response to Lee Sugeun's question, 'When did you gain independence?' the participant said that she took care of her brothers until she became independent at 24 years old, and from the age of 20, she supported herself with part-time jobs.
According to the participant, the second and third brothers have autism, while the youngest has developmental disabilities, each with varying levels of independence. The 29-year-old second brother can prepare his own meals, but the 18-year-old third brother struggles with communication, and the 14-year-old youngest still needs to wear diapers. She explained that their mother takes care of them and maintains their living expenses with benefits received as a basic livelihood recipient.
When Seo Jang-hoon asked why the mother is refusing the proposal to place the brothers in a facility, the participant said, 'After suggesting the facility placement, my mother cut off contact without any explanation,' adding that she heard from her aunt that 'she won't be in contact for the time being.' She continued that when she visited the house, 'her mother pretends not to notice while wearing earphones.'
Hearing the story, Seo Jang-hoon sympathized, saying, 'I can only imagine how hard it must be for your mother. She gave birth to her children and is trying to take responsibility until the end,' and added, 'No one can criticize your mother. You have also suffered while taking care of your brothers. You did enough.'
When the participant remarked that she has been thinking about suicide since she was 6 years old, Seo Jang-hoon advised her, 'You need to live your life,' offering a stern but encouraging message.
