Today (Oct. 10, Tue), on the broadcast of tvN's 'Naked World History' (directed by Kim Hyung-o and Lee Yoon-ho), episode 207 will explore tariffs, a powerful weapon that shakes the global economy.
To do this, Professor Park Sun-young from Dongguk University will serve as a lecturer. Graduating at the top of her class from the Department of Economics at Seoul National University and earning her master's and doctoral degrees in economics from Yale University in the United States, Professor Park plans to uncover everything about tariffs in her lecture.
Since early this year, after U.S. President Trump declared a tariff war against 185 countries, the world has been reeling as countries like China and Canada warned of retaliatory tariffs against the United States. Professor Park Sun-young noted, "Tariff policy is not just a simple economic issue, but it also shakes emotions between countries and consumer behavior," elaborating on the reasons why Trump has adopted a high tariff policy despite the backlash from trade partners.
Moreover, Professor Park explains the origins of tariffs and the stories of countries that introduced the current concept of tariffs, making it easy to understand when tariffs began to emerge as a powder keg in the global economy. She explains that there were also instances of the United States' high tariff policies in the past and the subsequent backlash from Europe, leading the cast to express surprise, saying, "Tariff wars are not a recent phenomenon," increasing curiosity.
Meanwhile, today's travel mates are actor Ko Joo-won and tax accountant Moon Jae-wan. Ko Joo-won, a graduate of the Department of Economics at Sogang University, will discuss the correlation between tariffs and the global economy, while Moon Jae-wan, who is also the husband of broadcaster Lee Ji-hye, will share deep insights into the U.S. tariff policy. Additionally, comedian Lee Yong-jin, filling in for Kyuhyun, actively participated in the lecture, adding to its richness based on his extensive knowledge of world history.
