The truth about the brutal crimes was revealed in "Brave Detectives 4."
In the 37th episode of "Brave Detectives 4," which aired on 6th, former Seoul Songpa Police Station Chief Kwang-seob Lee, former Senior Superintendent Wae-chul Yoon from the Scientific Investigation Unit (KCSI), and Inspector Jin-soo Kim appeared to unfold the investigation logs they solved themselves.
The first case began with a wife reporting that her husband, who left home to collect a debt, could not be reached. The missing person was a man in his late 40s, and the last signal from his cell phone was confirmed in an area approximately 200 km away from his residence. This area was where the debtor, who owed 1.6 billion won, lived, but the debtor claimed to be overseas.
It was confirmed that the missing person had taken out a loan of 200 million won at a bank using his land as collateral a day before leaving home and had received nine copies of a certificate of personal seal from the district office. The last caller was the debtor's brother, and the two were introduced to each other by an acquaintance. This also connected him with the debtor who claimed to be looking for investors. The brother, who claimed to be an agricultural management expert and auction specialist, suggested to the missing person to invest and partner with him, mentioning local developments. However, the brother had a criminal record of nine fraud and gambling offenses, and the debtor had four fraud offenses. Up to the point just before the disappearance, the brother had only repaid 50 million won of the principal amount of 1.6 billion won.
On the day estimated for the disappearance, a thorough investigation of the tollgate vehicles revealed that the missing person was seen in a vehicle owned by his brother. Additionally, it was confirmed that three mobile phones, including that of the brother, were turned off in the same area at the same time. The arrested brother claimed he did not know the missing person, but ultimately acknowledged the crime through evidence such as CCTV footage. It was revealed that he buried the missing person's body next to their parents' grave, and he even asked a backhoe operator to do so under the pretext of burying a white deer, shocking everyone.
The arrested brother continued to exercise his right to remain silent. However, it was confirmed that he had temporarily changed the ownership of his land to the name of the missing person by deceiving both the missing person and a real estate broker, and the brother also claimed that all the murder and body disposal was carried out by the younger brother. They had never used the borrowed money for business development, and there were only reports suggesting that the brothers frequented casinos. The younger brother was sentenced to life imprisonment, while the elder brother received a 20-year prison sentence.
The second case introduced by the KCSI was a case that shocked South Korea when the dismembered body of an unidentified woman was found at a subway station.
The case began with a report from a station attendant who found a body inside a travel bag discovered in a subway station restroom. The attendant reported that about an hour before, a man had passed through the gate pulling a travel bag, and that there were red liquids on the ground he had passed, making it suspicious. A colleague of the attendant asked the man about the bag, to which he only provided a vague response, stating it contained 40 kg of pork. The bag was layered with garbage bags, blankets, and clothing, and inside was the dismembered body of a woman, estimated to be in her 20s to 30s, which added to the shock.
The attendant speculated that the perpetrator was likely a foreigner because the culprit seemed to be poor in Korean. In reality, there had been an industrial complex nearby that housed foreign workers. The perpetrator was presumed to be a Chinese national living nearby, and through eyewitness accounts based on his physical features, it was discovered that he had been captured on CCTV purchasing a garbage bag and travel bag about five hours before the body was found.
The investigative team placed advertisements in the area and created wanted posters with CCTV images featuring the suspect's face, but it was not easy to obtain tips. While they were directly canvassing nearby households, they received a report from a resident that a Korean woman living alone next door had not been seen. Upon checking the inside of the house, a hammer and bone fragments were found in the bathroom, while blood-stained men's clothing and the victim's broken cellphone were found in the balcony trash can. Additionally, a human leg was discovered in a trash bag on the roof, and DNA testing confirmed it belonged to the victim.
Upon checking the victim's immigration records, it was found that she had departed for China three months prior and had returned home the day before the body was discovered. Her Chinese boyfriend had been in China for about seven months. Upon seeing the man in the CCTV footage, the boyfriend instantly identified him as his friend. The perpetrator claimed that he had been in an illicit relationship with the victim for two years, and when he couldn't reach her, he became angry, and after returning home, he committed the crime out of rage when he saw her with another man. However, there was no evidence of the victim being involved with another man, and it was revealed that the perpetrator had withdrawn 9.8 million won from four of the victim's bank accounts. The perpetrator was also found to be making false statements about the body that had not been disposed of, causing outrage. In the end, the perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment.
