Hollywood's leading actress Helen Hunt (61) confessed her struggle with social pressures regarding appearance. Although she is an Academy Award-winning actress, she has also suffered from the pressure to 'look a certain way' for a long time. However, she has now chosen inner health over appearance. Rejecting Botox and plastic surgery, she embraces the natural process of aging and lives as her true 'self.'
Recently, Helen Hunt said in an interview with 'Flow Space,' "It seemed impossible not to internalize the appearance standards demanded by Hollywood," adding, "I've felt shame and misery for not being able to reach that standard." However, over the past few years, she realized that those standards were detrimental to her mental health and decided not to be swayed by them anymore.
She firmly stated, "I thought this could quietly ruin my life, so I decided not to play with those thoughts anymore." She also revealed that this shift was made possible through the book 'The Only Diet There Is' by spiritual leader Sondra Ray. Helen added, "The lesson I gained from this book is to enjoy what I want to eat, savoring each bite."
This change starkly contrasts with her past. Helen acknowledged that she was overly obsessed with appearance in the 1980s. In a past interview with HuffPost, she said, "I was swayed by the idea that I had to be thinner then," noting it was a time when she was obsessively focused on her looks. However, she thinks differently now. "Once I gave up worrying, both my body and mind improved," she recalled, saying, "During exercise classes, I often wondered, 'Is this class really necessary? We're all going to die someday anyway.'"
Born in Culver City, California, in 1963, Hunt began her acting career with the drama 'Pioneer Woman' in 1973. She gained widespread acclaim playing Jamie Buchman in the NBC sitcom 'Mad About You' (1992–1999), for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress four times.
In 1997, she starred alongside Jack Nicholson in the film 'As Good as It Gets,' earning an Academy Award for Best Actress. She later showcased her talents in lead roles in films such as 'Twister' (1996), 'Pay It Forward' (2000), and 'The Sessions' (2012). Notably, 'The Sessions' gave her the opportunity to be a nominee for an Oscar.
In her private life, she has maintained a relatively low profile. Helen was married to producer Matthew Carnahan from 2001 until 2017, and they have a daughter, Makena Ray Gordon Carnahan.
Recently, she has been solidifying her position not only as an actress but also as a director. She participated in directing TV series such as 'Blindspotting' (2021) and 'The Politician' (2020), and returned once again as Jamie Buchman in the remade 'Mad About You' series. She has been beloved in Hollywood for decades for her unique charm.
