Author So Jae-won, famous for the films "Wish" and "Tunnel," thwarted malicious comments and political attacks directed at him.
So Jae-won left a message on his social media on the 5th, saying, "Two members of the extreme right who were investigated and charged after being sued by me wanted to meet to ask for forgiveness through DM. I initially thought they were incredibly wealthy based on the malicious comments I saw. (I cannot tell you more about the malicious comments as they could specify personal information.) I was going to demand a settlement of 100 million won, but they didn't even have 500 million won."
He continued, "I was so taken aback that I just laughed. One person brought my work, saying they had changed their mind after reading it and wanted forgiveness. I kindly took the work and handed them 50,000 won, saying, 'This is not a work for you to read. I will refund you. Please be punished severely, and make sure to respond to civil matters with as much fighting spirit as you did for the malicious comments.'"
So Jae-won added, "The other person mentioned a settlement amount of 2 million won. I held their hands and said, 'If we go to civil court, you will receive about 3 million won. I won't even recoup my expenses, but you will incur 3 million won in damages and fines, and it will remain on your record. If you spend 10 million won to obtain that much, I would be sufficiently satisfied.'"
So Jae-won has not hidden his political beliefs. He claimed that after publicly supporting the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, readers with extreme right-leaning views carried out extreme terror. He stated, "I repeated the experience of buying books and returning them after scrawling insults like 'get lost' and 'commie' in bright red pens," revealing that the publisher suffered direct damage.
Ultimately, author So Jae-won prepared a lawsuit. He stated, "The extreme right are more vicious than expected," and reiterated his firm stance with the message, "I don't do settlements. I just wanted to see your faces. Don't get your hopes up."
Meanwhile, in February, the Garosero Research Institute released allegations that So Jae-won was involved in the sexual entertainment industry. In response, So Jae-won clarified, "It has already been reported by multiple media outlets that I went undercover at host bars for writing purposes. I also went undercover at host bars in 2022 for the production of a drama depicting human desires."
He criticized, saying, "The lies perpetuated by the Garosero Research Institute about me were shocking. They endlessly spread nonsensical lies that included all sorts of insults. Those absurd lies spread rapidly," and submitted a lawsuit for the dissemination of false information.
