Jang Sin-young, who is returning as an actress after three years with The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun, shared her thoughts.
On the 5th, the production presentation for MBC's new daily drama The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun took place at Sangam MBC. The event was hosted by announcer Lim Hyun-joo, with actors Jang Sin-young, Seo Ha-jun, Yoon Ah-jeong, Oh Chang-seok, Lee Ru-da, and Director Kim Jin-hyung in attendance.
MBC's new daily drama The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun (planned by Jang Jae-hoon / directed by Kim Jin-hyung / written by Seol Kyung-eun), which will air its first episode on June 9 (Monday), depicts a woman's desperate quest for revenge against a conglomerate in the name of her only daughter in a world where the victim has transformed into the perpetrator.
In the drama, Jang Sin-young plays the role of Baek Seol-hee, a charming single mother who captures people's attention with her positive energy and benevolent words and actions.
For Jang Sin-young, The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun holds significant meaning in many ways. Her husband, actor Kang Kyung-jun, was accused of being an adulterer in December 2023 and faced a lawsuit claiming 50 million won in damages. In the first trial held on July 24 of last year at the Seoul Family Court, Kang Kyung-jun's side decided to conclude the lawsuit by accepting the complainant's claims.
Eight months after the controversy erupted, last August, Jang Sin-young revealed on social media that she decided to forgive Kang Kyung-jun for the sake of the children and has since returned to broadcasting, making her drama comeback after three years.
Jang Sin-young noted, "I'm very nervous and excited. First, I started with the pressure of thinking, 'I just need to do well.' However, as I began filming, I gradually started to gain energy."
She added, "I was very nervous and excited. While trembling, I thought, 'Can I really portray this role well?' But as I looked at the script, I became increasingly immersed. I felt that this role would be satisfying to perform as an actress at least once. In the beginning, we did a lot of outdoor filming, and the director helped me focus. As a result, I lost my nervous moments and could immerse myself in Seol-hee." She humorously added, "In fact, I'm still trembling."
