On the 3rd, Netflix stated to OSEN, "We saw the promotional material that parodied 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' (by candidate Kim Moon-soo), and there was no prior consultation with us," adding, "We are monitoring as various parody materials have been produced recently."
Earlier, candidate Kim Moon-soo posted on social media on the 2nd, "Still like petals, still dreaming of you. 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' grand reveal on June 2!!!" sharing a promotional poster parodying the popular show 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.'
The released photo included the spring poster of 'When Life Gives You Tangerines', with the faces of candidate Kim Moon-soo and his wife Seol Nan-young superimposed instead of the main characters IU and Park Bo-gum. Kim Moon-soo was parodied to look like Yang Gwan-sik, while Seol Nan-young looked like Oh Ae-soon.
However, some fans expressed dissatisfaction, saying, "Don't use the work for politics or elections," and "Did you get prior permission from Netflix to post this?"
Recently, candidate Kim Moon-soo also used the catchphrases and gestures of world-renowned professional gamer Faker (Lee Sang-hyuk) without permission, which he quickly deleted. This time, it was confirmed that he parodied without prior consultation with Netflix.
