The group SEVENTEEN (S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, Doyoung, Seungkwan, Vernon, Dino) set a record for the highest initial sales of K-pop albums this year with their 5th studio album.
According to the album sales aggregation site Hanteochart on the 2nd, SEVENTEEN's 5th studio album 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' sold a total of 2,521,208 copies in its first week of release (sales period May 26 to June 1), securing the top spot on the weekly album chart. This is the highest figure among K-pop albums released this year.
On the day of the comeback, they set another significant record for initial sales in generating the first double million-seller in K-pop this year, showcasing their status as one of the 'top K-pop groups.' SEVENTEEN is a team known for continuing to increase their album sales even after the initial sales aggregation is completed, raising expectations for their future achievements.
'HAPPY BURSTDAY' is sweeping both domestic and international album charts. The new release topped the Hanteochart's daily album chart and the 'Worldwide iTunes Album' chart immediately after its release and maintained its lead for five consecutive days (May 27 to 31) on Japan's Oricon 'Daily Album Ranking.' In China, it reached the top of the daily and weekly 'Digital Bestselling Album' comprehensive category, and also received a 'Diamond Album Certification' for surpassing 5 million yuan in sales.
The title track 'THUNDER' is also faring remarkably well. This song topped the Bugs daily chart for two consecutive days (May 30 and 31). With minimal fluctuations in the upper rankings, it also secured the top spot on Melon's 'Top 100', commonly referred to as the 'concrete chart', and remains firmly in the top tier. Given the positive reception online for the 'THUNDER' performance showcased in music shows, the music streaming rankings are expected to gain even more momentum.
SEVENTEEN boasts significant influence not only in albums but also in the global performance market. According to the annual mid-year report released recently by Billboard in the U.S., they achieved approximately $120.9 million in ticket sales from October 1 last year to March 31 this year. This is the third highest ticket revenue among artists worldwide and the highest record for a K-pop artist.
SEVENTEEN continues to be active, transitioning between music shows and entertainment content. Their much-anticipated third meeting with Producer Na Young-seok, 'Nanamin House with SEVENTEEN,' finally reveals its content today (the 2nd). The main episodes (3 episodes) will be released simultaneously in Korea every Monday on tvN and Disney+, and will also be available to 77 countries and regions overseas on global platforms. The full version, which features longer content than the main episodes, will be available weekly on Mondays and Fridays on Weverse over a total of 6 episodes. On the 4th, Joshua will appear on the web variety show 'Naraesik', followed by Seungkwan and Vernon visiting 'Halmyungsu' on the 6th, and Mingyu goes to 'Hyel's Club.'
