'The Haunted Palace' Palcheokgui Seo Do-young expressed his thoughts on making a shocking transformation into Palcheokgui as he returned to drama after five years.
Seo Do-young appears as the top-tier vengeful spirit Palcheokgui in the SBS drama 'The Haunted Palace' (written by Yoon Soo-jung and directed by Yoon Sung-sik and Kim Ji-yeon), which has only 2 episodes left. Palcheokgui was the vengeful spirit of Cheon Geum-hwi, a royal guard from 100 years ago, who became a terrible evil spirit harboring resentment against the royal family. In the 13th episode, it was revealed that the identity of Palcheokgui is the "flower handsome actor" Seo Do-young, making headlines by dominating the main page of portal sites. Particularly due to his towering figure, measuring 2.4 meters, and his monstrous visuals, speculations arose that Palcheokgui was created with CGI, but the fact that Seo Do-young managed it in full-body makeup drew public attention.
Seo Do-young also revealed the behind-the-scenes story that even other actors and staff members were unaware that he had been cast as Palcheokgui for a while. He recalled, "Before filming, I didn't attend the introductory meeting or the script reading to maintain the secrecy. When I greeted everyone for the first time in the Palcheokgui makeup on set, everyone was quite surprised. The weight of the villain felt very significant." He proudly shared, "When I completed the first makeup of Palcheokgui, the director applauded and said the character turned out well."
Meanwhile, Seo Do-young returned to drama after five years since the SBS drama 'Would You Like to Taste?' which ended in 2020. Regarding the reason, he stated, "As COVID-19 hit, the productions of the projects I was preparing for were halted, and my return was delayed." Lastly, Seo Do-young noted, "Palcheokgui was a new challenge for me. I pat myself on the back for enduring a lot. I will continue to greet viewers through good works in the future."
