The first childbirth variety show in Korea, TV CHOSUN 'Our Baby is Born', exclusively revealed the childbirth journey of the couple Son Dam-bi and Lee Gyu-hyuk, who were in a precarious situation due to 'placenta previa'. Special MC Jang Seo-hee, who joined the show, was moved by the miraculous childbirth of the 'firefighter couple' together with Park Soo-hong.
In the episode aired at 10 p.m. on the 30th, 'Sunny Wind Duo' Park Soo-hong and Yang Se-hyung visited Son Dam-bi's home, who was one day away from giving birth. Son Dam-bi shared, "Since I am 41 years old and classified as a geriatric pregnancy, I had many concerns. It is 'complete placenta previa,' which is difficult for me," conveying her situation. To help the perplexed Yang Se-hyung, obstetrician Kim Ji-yeon, who served as a consultant, explained, "The placenta is the passage through which nutrients flow between the mother and baby. It should be positioned above, next to, or behind the uterus, but if it is in the birth canal, it is 'placenta previa.' If the placenta detaches first, there is a risk of excessive bleeding for the mother, and both the mother and baby could be in danger due to a lack of oxygen and nutrients," describing the dangers of placenta previa.
Park Soo-hong noted, "Even though it is 'placenta previa', it seems that she is healthy up to 38 weeks because her husband has been taking good care of her," acknowledging Lee Gyu-hyuk's support. In response, Son Dam-bi expressed, "My parents were unhappy when I was pregnant because they were not getting along. Therefore, I had a 'question mark' about marriage and didn't want a baby at all. But I married someone I felt I could rely on. I thought I could raise a baby that looked like my husband well," showing her trust in her husband Lee Gyu-hyuk. On their way to the hospital for admission before giving birth, Lee Gyu-hyuk said, "I'm a bit scared of the surgery, but I also want to see the baby quickly, so it's a complex feeling. As a placenta previa mother, Son Dam-bi was only able to give birth via a 'cesarean section'. On the day of surgery, to ease the tension of Son Dam-bi, Lee Gyu-hyuk pointed out his phone screen showing '11:11', saying there was a jinx of things going well when seeing the number 1. He also played Son Dam-bi's 'On Saturday Night' and danced to help relieve her anxiety. When Lee Gyu-hyuk handed a heartfelt handwritten letter to Son Dam-bi, she said, "Seeing the letter has put my mind at ease," as tears welled up with love for her husband.
Eventually, Son Dam-bi went into the operating room, and Lee Gyu-hyuk expressed, "I felt so sorry. I thought it would be much better if I could give birth instead. Right now, I hope Dam-bi has a safe and successful surgery," feeling anxious. Son Dam-bi's surgery took longer than expected, and the medical staff informed the worried Lee Gyu-hyuk, "About 1,400 ml of blood has been lost. Son Dam-bi has experienced more bleeding than expected. The surgery will be over soon." Following that, the baby was born first, and Lee Gyu-hyuk exclaimed, "Uwa. So cute!" as he smiled brightly at the sight of their daughter for the first time. He displayed proud fatherly characteristics, saying, "It's so amazing. Even if viewed objectively, she is cute," which made Park Soo-hong, the 'father doting senior,' burst out laughing. Son Dam-bi also completed the surgery successfully and entered recovery, and the couple Son Dam-bi and Lee Gyu-hyuk expressed their commitment to raising their daughter, 'Hae-i.'
Meanwhile, the childbirth scene of the firefighter couple, who fell in love while on duty, was also revealed. Just three days before her due date, the mother went to the hospital alone for an examination, leaving her husband at work. However, she received a diagnosis of 'oligohydramnios', indicating an abnormally low amount of amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus, and was urgently admitted. It was a situation where she could give birth at any moment, and her husband, who learned of the news late, rushed to the scene of his wife's childbirth. In the meantime, 'Fasoo' occurred, creating a situation where the baby could be in danger, requiring an expedited delivery.
When the medical staff explained, "The epidural reduces pain but slows down labor," the mother replied, "I'll endure it for the baby," choosing to reject the epidural. In response, obstetrician Kim Ji-yeon explained, "The pain of childbirth is similar to the pain of losing a finger, but this pain increases more frequently and intensifies over time, making it difficult to endure." The mother, who endured the extreme pain with strong willpower, gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
