In the TV CHOSUN ultra-realistic documentary entertainment program 'The Matchmaker of Joseon,' Shim Hyun-seob, who received much love for his movie-like romance story, shared his thoughts on marriage. Shim Hyun-seob expressed his joy, saying, "It feels unfamiliar yet reassuring and happy to have a partner to share my life with."
In April, after ending his 54 years as a bachelor, Shim Hyun-seob finally started a family with his 'lifelong partner' Jeong Yeong-rim. Shim Hyun-seob experienced everything from meeting Yeong-rim to crises, and their about one-year romance leading up to marriage.
He enjoyed the joy of newlywed life, saying, "I feel excited and thrilled to be able to spend every moment from opening my eyes to closing them together." He also mentioned, "Every time I wear the wedding ring on my finger, I feel that I have become the head of a household," and revealed that he is focused on health management in preparation for having children. Moreover, Shim Hyun-seob stated, "I think my unwavering love for Yeong-rim has given her trust and confidence," sharing that his sincere but clumsy expression of love was the secret to their marriage success. The following is a Q&A with Shim Hyun-seob.
Q. What are your thoughts on starting newlywed life after 54 years?
- Every moment spent with Yeong-rim makes me realize, "I really got married." When we were dating, I always felt regretful about parting, but now we don't have to separate, and I feel excited and thrilled to be able to share every moment from opening my eyes to closing them.
Every time I wear a wedding ring that I have never worn before, I feel that I have become the head of a household, responsible for one woman. That sense of responsibility has made me more diligent about maintaining my health and fitness.
Q. What are the benefits of stepping away from being a 'national bachelor'?
- I was originally someone who was used to being alone, but Yeong-rim works hard to support and care for me. At first, it felt unfamiliar, but it was very nice to feel that stability amid the unfamiliarity. Having a partner to share my life with makes me feel very reassured and happy.
Q. What about your plans for children that everyone is curious about?
- Since we are still newlyweds, I have a strong desire to spend more time alone with Yeong-rim. In fact, I think having Yeong-rim alone is sufficient and a great gift. However, Yeong-rim loves children and wants to have a baby. So, I am working hard to meet Yeong-rim's expectations.
Q. It is said that newlyweds often argue, but is that true for you and Yeong-rim?
- We had enough fights during the process of getting to know each other during dating. Now, that shouldn't happen. In fact, I still have many shortcomings and clumsy parts. That's why I need to do better. Yeong-rim understands my efforts better than anyone, and she shows a lot of understanding and consideration.
Q. Yeong-rim mentioned on the broadcast that she prepared all the wedding dowry, surprising the viewers. What preparations did you make for Yeong-rim before your marriage?
- Yeong-rim always tells me, "Oppa, you are always consistent, and you never confuse me." I think my unwavering love for Yeong-rim has given her trust and confidence. So, I always strive to bring Yeong-rim laughter and joy. I am also doing my best for my new family, the in-laws.
Q. There were many congratulatory messages from the Shim family of Cheongsong; was there any impressive congratulatory message or wedding gift from them?
- They gifted us eel and bokbunja for our honeymoon. On our first night, I ignited my will while eating the bokbunja they gave us. They also gifted us a painting with good energy, urging us to have a baby. I keep that painting above our bed, and every time I sleep, I reflect on the hearts of the elders of the Shim family of Cheongsong. I plan to join the movement to continue the lineage of the Shim family of Cheongsong as soon as possible.
