The wife stated, "When I was not far along in my pregnancy, my goal was 30 weeks. I was trying to endure so that the children could grow a bit more, but it was so hard that I cried every day at home. I said, 'Let's hold on until 27 weeks,' but we couldn't even last a day until then," revealing that she ultimately had to undergo emergency surgery before reaching 7 months.
She continued, "At that time, my hands and feet were swollen like an elephant, and I found out I had pregnancy-induced hypertension. Water accumulated in my lungs, and I couldn't stop coughing." She added, "When I went into surgery, I heard the first son's cry clearly. At that moment, tears fell due to relief," noting, "The state of the children was so small that none of them weighed 1 kg. All five quintuplets had to undergo surgery." The largest, the firstborn, weighed 969g, while the smallest, the fourth, weighed 736g.
The wife mentioned, "The fourth underwent surgery for patent ductus arteriosus, and the youngest had a perforation in the intestine, requiring surgery to remove their intestines just two weeks after birth. They said there was an 80% chance of needing a stoma. It was an emergency surgery, and there were such critical moments," adding, "I thought if they had stayed in my belly, they would have grown comfortably. Seeing them struggle to survive made me feel so guilty for making them endure such hardships right after birth. I also felt a sense of guilt, wondering, 'If I had held on for just another week, would they have been a little better?' It made me feel sorry that such large needles were poked into their small bodies, as it seemed they would make them be born small."
Yoo Jae-seok noted, "We cannot ignore the financial aspect," mentioning the prices of formula and diapers. The wife replied, "We go through a can of formula every day. So, we order more every day."
