Cast members of the musical 'Phantom,' including Park Hyo-shin, conveyed their passionate enthusiasm and emotion from the rehearsal studio to the main performance.
On the 27th, musical production company EMK Musical Company (hereafter EMK) unveiled rehearsal photos packed with actors' vibrant energy ahead of the 10th-anniversary performance of 'Phantom,' which will open at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul on May 31.
The released photos captured the serious appearances of the actors fully immersed in rehearsals for their respective roles. Notably, in preparation for this 10th-anniversary performance, they rented out a 500-pyeong-sized studio entirely for tryouts, bringing in actual stage sets for practice, showcasing the meticulous efforts of the production team and cast to maximize the work's quality.
All the actors in 'Phantom,' in celebration of the 10th anniversary, perfectly executed delicate emotional performances, as well as high-level ballet choreography, impressing the on-site staff. Additionally, their efforts to create a richer stage based on character analysis and organic teamwork have heightened expectations for the fifth season.
The musical 'Phantom,' which conveyed the actors' passion through the behind-the-scenes rehearsal reveal, is based on Gaston Leroux's 'The Phantom of the Opera' (1910) and showcases the solid capabilities of EMK Musical Company, which has demonstrated excellent localization through high-quality original musicals that have shaken the industry, like 'The Man Who Laughs,' 'Frankenstein,' and 'Beethoven; Beethoven Secret,' as well as through works like 'Mozart!,' 'Rebecca,' and 'Elisabeth.'
The piece features a luxurious three-story stage that replicates the Paris Opera House, sophisticated directing that adds depth to the 'Phantom' character, a streamlined plot, and quick scene transitions that enhance audience immersion, visualizing the Phantom's past through ballet choreography, breathing new life into the work.
As a result, the musical 'Phantom' topped the ticket sales rankings in the musical institutional sector in 2015 and 2016, won the grand prize at the 11th Golden Ticket Awards, earning recognition for its popularity, box office success, and creative merit, and has consistently been loved by audiences over four seasons. In 2025, it will return for its fifth season to celebrate its 10th anniversary in Korea, concluding its 10-year journey with a 'Grand Finale' season.
Meanwhile, the fifth season of the musical 'Phantom,' the 10th-anniversary performance, will be available exclusively at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul from May 31 to August 11.
