Eom Yu-jin mentioned her parents' illnesses and added delightful memories.
On the afternoon of the 28th, tvN's "You Quiz on the Block" featured Cha Min-a, who works as a nurse at a hospital in Saudi Arabia, webtoon artist Eom Yu-jin, Park Ji-won, who is pursuing a new dream after being a high-earning lawyer, and the couple Kim Jun-young and Sa Gong-hye-ran, who welcomed five quintuplets through natural conception, among others.
Previously, webtoon artist Eom Yu-jin became famous for her "Funjaissi Toon," which depicts her mother's flickering memories as the sparkle of a Christmas tree, capturing family stories filled with witty conversations in her webtoon.
Her mother was a university lecturer and novelist, but she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and her father, who is a former professor of philosophy at Sogang University, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a month ago.
After one year of serializing her parents' stories, her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, saying, "Originally, my mother was very punctual, but she forgot an appointment we had to meet at the playground. I thought my mother could never forget such an appointment. When I called my father, he said they were at the bank handling some business. After waiting for another 30 minutes and calling again, I found my mother was at home. That was the first time I noticed symptoms."
She continued, "After the playground incident, no matter how many times I went to the hospital with her for a year, they would say things like, 'The daughter seems a bit sensitive' and 'It's normal for her age.' However, similar symptoms persisted, and after undergoing detailed tests, the diagnosis came back as Alzheimer's." She recalled, "The doctor said deterioration wouldn't be sudden but could last 3 to 4 years or more. At that time, my mother said to my father, 'Did you hear? There's no way I can remarry now~'" reflecting on the cheerful days amid a desperate situation.
However, my mother's condition worsened day by day, and she said, "The hardest part was that my mother was an independent person and may have not liked receiving my help. While I accompanied her, our mother-daughter bond grew closer, but we also had our arguments. We underwent a process of changing caregivers." She added, "Although my mother's health has declined, she is still aware of her family. Sometimes she seems a bit confused, but the family knows her well."
However, a month ago, she also shared the news that her father had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. "He started to look unwell one day and said, 'I think I have Parkinson's.' The family thought that was unlikely. Because of our deep concerns, we urged him to get a health checkup, and that result came back. After my father found out, he said he felt relieved and suggested that we celebrate."
